Tracking questions
Hi there, just a quick question about giving tracking details, I just sell books on amazon and the price I get for posting is £2.80, when 90% of the time or more I pay small parcel prices which are £3.00, I am epected to provide tracking details with this, something which I cant with standard second class.
If I were to provide tracking details then my postage costs would be £4.00 as would have to pay for tracking, my question is …is this now what is expected from us to pay for tracking post.
If I dont provide tracking does this go againts my feedback score.
If this is now what is expected then I would have to raise my prices to compensate or delete certain books.

If you have the Individual Selling Plan, you won’t be able to set your own shipping costs.
But you can include the expenses in the product price.
As a Professional Seller selling books, please review this help page:
You are not required to ship tracked, however without tracking you will automatically lose any “Item Not Received” A-Z claim.

No tracking is not compulsory (yet!)
However you can not defend an INR case without it. You need to way up your losses due to this against the loss of sales should you increase your prices!

Just to add, you won’t get the full £2.80. There are also Amazon fees on top of that, you end up with around £2.30.

Whilst tracking isn’t compulsory yet, you won’t win an A-Z claim without it (and it must be a signed for service else they will also just refund the customer)

I too sell mostly just books. Anything under 20.00 value I don’t send tracked { as others have said it is not compulsory yet and does not count against you) , but over 25.00 I do send signed for.
You do have to make allowances in your selling price, and obviously there are books that cost less than 3.00 to post if thin and light so you do make a bit more on those - swings and roundabouts.

To add to what others have said. Tracking is not compulsory. If you are sending 2nd class Small Parcel for £3.00, using a Post Office, you can upload the 2D barcode reference number from your receipt. This will not protect you against an INR A-Z claim. However, in my experience it is often enough to respond to any enquiry from a buyer asking where their item is. I have also had rare cases of genuine non-delivery, where the 2D tracking has shown me that the item has not been delivered. This, of course, provides the basis for a claim against Royal Mail.
