UK vat and customs procedure
HI
I 'm uk based individual seller . I want to understand how customs and vat process works
when sending product from china to amazon uk warehouse.
if for example my product has 200 pcs and the total cost is 2000GBP and the shipping cost is 200 GBP from the supplier in chgina to amazon uk.
-
How the customs and uk vat is calculated ?
-
Is the amount of vat is refundable if i’m vat registered ?
-
The supplier says it costs 270 GBP including uk customs and vat , is that right ?
-
I have also contacted shipping companies on alibaba and they quote 200 GBP including customs and vat
Could you please clear this issue for me
Thanks

According to my experience, whenever I had my Chinese supplier ship items directly into FBA on my behalf, they handled the customs clearance and the costs were already included in the product price.
Most Chinese suppliers are very experienced with delivering products into FBA for their clients all over the world, so I would advise you to let them do it as it is easier this way. However, if you are not the importer, then I don’t think that you will be able to have the VAT refunded.

Does not look right, the VAT on £2200 should be £440 plus import duty for eg 5% so a figure of £550 ish would be about the mark.

Do I need to register for vat and register a company to refund vat?

If i’m vat registered , can I refund import vat as increasing 20% to my prices will make me 20% higher that other sellers for the same product.
