Item returned with tag taken off

I have a customer who wants to return an item but he has pulled the tag off. The tag is plastic where the manufacturer has used a tag machine to attach (i have no such machine) and cannot sell as new with it unattached. Worried il get bad feedback and a very small business not made a profit yet.

The most you can do with it is to reduce the amount you refund the customer.
If it is a change of mind return, then it should be in it’s original condition.
As the customer has not returned it in that condition, then it is reasonable to deduct the (Reasonable) amount you consider lost, because of the removal of the tag.
That doesn’t mean you won’t get negative feedback, or even an A-Z because of it. But you do at least have some comeback.

Accept the return. Refund in full when it arrives. Buy a tag machine. Sell as new.

I would accept the return, maybe knock £1-2 off for the tags being detached. As @Simon1 says if you’re selling a lot of clothing a tag machine will come in useful anyway. They only cost about £5…

The customer told me that he had thrown the receipt in the bin and could look for it, I advised that a unattached label that had been in a bin could be soiled and smell, there i would bw unable to re sell the item.
I will look at a label machine thats a good idea thank you

If the tag has been taken off, reject the return. Items sold as new and must be returned new. Otherwise there is no point to having a tag at all.
