Living in Ireland..... selling on Amazon UK with FBA...... VAT registration!
Hi everyone,
So I started selling on Amazon a few months back using Amazon FBA and things have been going good… until this whole craze started about the VAT registration, and there seems to be a lot of panic about it. I realize Amazon have to this so I suppose we need to just suck it up.
I now have just 52 days to get registered so i need to get on this quickly!
For me in Ireland I am wondering could any of you guys tell me, will an Irish VAT number be enough for Amazon? or will they want me to actually register in the UK?
If they just needed the Irish VAT number it would be ok and pretty easy but if they want me to register in the UK it seems to get a bit tricky for me. I would probably use Amazons VAT service (€400 per year) if i have to register in the UK.
Id really appreciate any advice from someone, thanks guys.

If you are storing goods in UK which you are, you MUST register for VAT in UK (www.hmrc.gov.uk) before your first sale, there is no threshold. But you’ve missed that boat.
I wouldn’t recommend you use a 3rd party as being in English, you won’t have any problems completing tax returns, they are simple. You choice of course. (I’ll do it for you for €200 per year . No,not really).
You will probably have to pay some back VAT but depending on which way the wind blows, you might get away it. What you can’t do is ignore the registration.

Rugsy is correct, register for the VAT in the UK asap if you want to continue selling on Amazon. You should have done it before you shipped any goods to the UK warehouse.

Thanks guys, I’ll get it done asap. Would any of you recommend using Amazons VAT service?
That way they cant really block my account if I haven’t got it done by the deadline because they would be the ones taking care of it for me.
Yes Kika I would have been registered but the email for everyone to register was sent out a month after I started on Amazon, i thought it only depended on the threshold I didn’t realize it was because I stored goods in the UK.

I would do directly with HMRC, you have the benefit that you speak English and it’s not complicated.
VAT returns are very easy with HMRC and I would save my money rather than paying for anyone else to do.

So if Only_Tags company is based in the Ireland and he’s paying VAT in the UK, is it possible for him to get this VAT back?
I guess that Only_Tags is making all the business expenses in Ireland so he can’t decrease the VAT amount to be paid to HMRC?
