Has every seller got a trademark?

I have a business selling optical products, I’m a sole trader, but have an e-commerce website, logo, registered business etc. etc.
I opened a seller account on Amazon and want to put my logo and some information about my business on my ‘storefront’.
Apparently I can’t do that unless I’ve got ‘A Brand’ and I can’t get ‘A Brand’ unless I’ve got all my items and packages permanently branded and also have a registered trademark.
Is this correct? Is there no way round this?
It’s weird.

Put it this way, why would you want to go to the cost and expense of building a brand for your business to then not go the final step and legally protect it with a trademark to stop someone else benefiting from your hard work?

It is nothing to do with having a trademark. If you have a professional seller account you can add your logo to your profile, if you have a personal account you can not.

Brand Registry has certain requirements . You need to have a registered trademark . As PeterB mentions if you are building a brand it would be wise to protect it by registering a trademark over it

Not everyone does have a trademark, but this is actually a growing trend here on Amazon.
For example, we used to resell all kind of products on amazon, that were sorted from various distributors, but there was always a lot of competition.
About 2 years ago we’ve created our own brand, trademarked it and registered with Amazon brand registry.

Now we do have 3 factories across Europe and most of the stuff we sell comes from our own production under our brand and it is protected against competition, so we set the prices and profit margins.

For us this was the business saving idea and we recommend everyone to rather do that than to go into bidding war with other resellers of random generic products fighting for virtually no profit…

A few years ago, people had the same actual product either with their logo on the packaging or doctored images showing a logo. with all the suspensions for trademark infringement, they changed things around…now even if you have a registered trademark you have to prove your product is not a general generic type product , but unique/different to the others. This is a tricky one since many products look the same but are diff quality.

You can offer items for sale under your own brand even if you don’t have it trademarked.
