Cancellation of unshipped item

I have made a mistake with pricing an item. The ad should have read £69.95, however, it was a typo that read £9.95
Obviously, this was my mistake, however, if I cancel this order due to the pricing error, will this count against me in my metrics. Or would you advice just to take the hit?

This would be the first ever order I would have cancelled. Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, this was your own error, so you will need to cancel the order in accordance with Amazon’s policy by clicking on the “Cancel order” button.

This will give you a defect, however a single defect will not lead to a suspension of your account.

Just make sure that this doesn’t happen again.

Hi
Thank you for your quick response.
Just a thought, I have applied for SFP and am on trial. Do you think this defect would affect this trial.
Sound to me that It might be better to take the hit

It’s only a short term defect on your metrics, I would not lose sleep over it, just cancel, but make sure you message the buyer in advance and offer an apology explaining the situation, as a negative feedback would do more damage than a cancellation.

Am I the only person here who sees an ethical dimension to this question?

I’m sad to say it will. The good news is that if you only have one cancellation defect it shouldn’t cause you a problem.

I think you did the right thing, I am not sure of the facts, but I believe in the retail world a shop that miss prices has to sell you the item at the wrong advertised price. If that is correct you may be in breach of trading standards. I have in the past reached out to local TS on other maters, they are very helpful and will give you advice. The other advantage in talking to them is anything they advice is fully supported by law.

Please be careful distance selling is not the same as selling through ‘bricks & mortar’. Also Amazon is a different to a normal online shopping channel. it all comes down to when a contract starts and what is in that contract

A customer placing an order through is an ‘offer’ to buy and the transaction/contract starts when an order is dispatched.

Amazon quote:
Only if your online contact states that an online order can be cancelled, replaced, substituted ETC. before dispatch. Giving the excuse that the item was incorrectly priced will breach advertising rules for misleading information and may open a ‘can of worms’.
You can with draw an item and reprice however consideration will be needed for any orders placed before the price change.
Distance selling is a different to shop selling once a customer places an order they have entered into a contract with the seller, the seller is obliged to deliver the goods with 30 days unless a right to cancel is applied as per contract.
