Refund initiated on order from 2 years ago

Hey all,

This is a new one for me.

Received notice in email that Amazon has initiated a refund for an item. When I passed the order number into the orders page nothing came up but said the order had been moved and to click a link. I click the link and find the order which they have just refunded - order date November 28, 2019.

I do not believe this. I contacted Amazon thinking there must be some kind of mistake - nope - Amazon graciously agreed to return an item 2 goddamned years after it was sold on my goddamned dime.

FBA has become increasingly corrupt with its returns. Last time they issued a return for carrier damage then changed it to customer damaged so they don’t have to reimburse me. Now they are giving away £85 of my money for a return on an product bought 2 years ago - an item with an expiry date that ha certainly passed.

Here is what they sent me:

Hello from Amazon Selling Partner Support,

I know how essential it is for you to check as to why this Order ID: 202-5005558-7760344 was accepted for refund.

We have acknowledged that this Order ID: 202-5005558-7760344 was placed last November 28, 2019. We would like to apologized as we understand that the refund took place outside of return window. I carefully checked everything about your order ID: 202-5005558-7760344 and the buyer contacted our customer service team to request for a refund.

I know that it was already outside of return window however our customer service is providing a refund on a case to case basis and Amazon protecting your account to have negative feedback which may affect your Seller Performance Metrics here. Having negative feedback may affect the other buyers as well once they saw it in the reviews section.

As I reviewed the Order ID: 202-5005558-7760344 was refunded less than 45 days. Please allow for at least 45 days, to make sure that the buyer had enough time to return your item.

In case the buyer failed to return the order, you will be reimbursed in accordance of FBA lost

Has it been refunded because there was a warranty on the product?

The customer is always right — ha ha thats why amazon will approve the return even if item is used and abused when it arrives back.

I’ve had this before when an item has been abused for nearly 2 years then sent back, another classic is ordering an item and sending an abused one back as not working, rather annoying but little can be done other than report them

This can obviously also happen with a product recall

We used to sell smoke alarms which had a non-replaceable battery guaranteed to last 10 years… from the date of manufacture.
They were manufactured around 7-8 years before we sold them, we sold them at around £5, we had a LOT of customers complaining to Amazon after about 3-4 years because the battery had run out… They cited the 10-year guarantee and got an instant refund processed by Amazon’s CS.

Quite a fun read

People think they are making on money on FBA lol , only 1 x winner on Amazon and that is Amazon
Amazon has created Fans ! not customers.

That’s my experience from working for a company and handling T-claims for over 2-Years. You can’t make livelihood , you 're locked into this vicious AmZ cycle.

I swear if I got a portfolio of cases reading these and was in touch with all these people who have lost money through Amazon a court would have a field day.

So I reopened the case-log after the first poorly written reply, and in response I received the exact same poorly written reply.

And the item has now been returned. Return reason is “not compatible with my existing system” and Amazon has listed is at “defective.”

I am quite certain that the return reason is {Moderator Edit (Jessica) profanity removed}. How? Because this customer ordered 2 printer inks from me that go with the same printer and those were not returned.

So basically what happened here is that this customer bought this item 2 years ago and sat on it. Then, after 2 years, either they went to install it and the expiry date was past, or they no longer have that printer and therefore asked Amazon for a return which they granted.

2 years after the sale, 1 year since it expired.
