GS1 help please
Hi, Can anyone help me please. I have been selling on Amazon for many years and have been using the same barcodes on my products without any problems until a few weeks ago; the products I sell are my own private label and I purchase barcodes through Barcodes Talk. My products (dresses)are not trademarked and I am not brand registered with Amazon.
All my listings are with multi variations and many of the variations have been removed by Amazon because they are now telling me that I must buy the barcodes through GS1.
If I go ahead and buy the new barcodes does anyone know how easy it is to delete the old product listing and re list with the new barcodes. ? Any help will be much welcomed please. Thanks , Jane

Yes amazon are currently removing non gs1 barcoded listings from the catalogue
You need to buy now from gs1 and create whole new listings. You will though loose all reviews etc

Thanks for your reply, I didn’t realise that I would lose all the reviews, is there any other way around this?

We have seen, and are seeing, this a lot in the US Forum. Some things don’t transfer to other Regions but I believe this one does.
Overall Amazon has been going through the catalog re-verifying UPC’s against GS1 based on prefix and shutting down those with non-GS1 purchased codes.
To try to save the Reviews:
- You will need to get GS1 codes or get GTIN Exemption (I assume that’s the same over here)
- I would first try to recreate 1 ASIN exactly with a new UPC
- I would then attempt to Merge it with the existing ASIN
Disclaimer - If you have a lot this might trigger a policy violation relating to the ASIN Creation Policy, but it might be the only way forward.
Good Luck. Amazon should have a way to fix this though.
ETA - Single purchase GS1 codes have had issues in the US being approved by Amazon. Several of us believe it’s because the prefix isn’t registered to a single brand. In those cases sellers have had to open cases, provide the document showing it’s registered with GS1 and waited 2-3 weeks for the team to approve it.

Thanks everyone for your information, I am still not sure which route to take, whether to try the exemption route or to buy new barcodes , at the moment it isn’t all my inventory which is affected , probably about 20 %. Which way would be better to avoid losing all my reviews?

Are the barcodes you have actually registered to another company? According to the Barcodes Talk website, all their codes are GS1 registered, so surely you should be OK? There are a few different websites that offer UPC owner lookup where you can check.

I commented on a similar thread. To me, this looks unbelievable. To sell for so many years and lose reviews and hard work, says a lot about Amazon’s care for the sellers.
Ok, I understand the alignment with GS1 rules but I do not understand why do not come up with a solution attached to bad news. What a seller can do in order to move all reviews and stock from old EANs to new GS1 certified?
I imagine how awful became to create a ticket and start a conversation with support in this matter.
Thank you Amazon, I am thinking more serious to switch away from this abusive behaviour. Fortunately, I have some handmade products but this does not mean that tomorrow will not appear new rules and I am losing everything.
I think people lost their humanity because they lost the ability to put themselves in someone’s shoes.

Hi Guys, for all in this situation there is something you can try.
if you go to inventory-manage inventory-add a variation
add or update an existing variation
add any child asin relating to the advert in question
this will bring up all the variations associated with the listing
this is where if you wanted you could add extra variations
once done generate template
its best in excel
there is a lot of information to fill in but its all repeated so copy/paste drag
with the issue of ean numbers this is where you can try change them
its not guaranteed as can conflict with brands and data already stored in the amazon catalogue.
once done save
the go to catalogue - add products via upload- upload the file
file will generate an error report if any
good luck

“GTINs are considered invalid if they are not GS1 vended or not recognized by the brand owner .”
I only have private label products in my own trademarked brand name, I am the brand owner and I am also brand registered on Amazon. I applied for GTIN exemption and it was granted.
None of my barcodes are from GS1
So the question is can my listings get pulled as described or am I safe?

I am confused by the terminology being used here. Barcodes are created using the GTIN number. A barcode is NOT the actual GTIN number but is a graphical representation of the GTIN number The GTIN numbers MUST be supplied by a recognised GTIN number supplier. I use https://www.gs1uk.org/. However, I do NOT buy the barcode that I put on my product label from them as they are expensive. It is my understanding that Amazon CHECKS that the entered GTIN number is valid when a new listing is added. HOWEVER, these GTIN numbers CANNOT be added as a GTIN number on Amazon but as a UPC or EAN??? At least, that is the only way I have been able to add new listings and I have no problems doing so.
Have I got this all wrong?
