Listing not online

I set up a merchant seller account and a listing of my own paperback novel (which is already listed on Amazon to buy from other sellers) and received confirmation that listing was live Tuesday 11th July. But now 10 days later and my seller listing has never appeared. Nine days ago I received confirmation that I was registered for Amazon’s Merchant selling plan with fee being immediately deducted - yet my listing has never appeared. I have emailed seller support at least once every day, also spoken twice on phone, and have been given inconsistent reasons (keyword, holiday option, product identity) as to the reason for non appearance, which I have attended to. Five days ago, after I complained again I was told the listing was active and discoverable, but it wasn’t. When I contacted again I was told it had “no product category.” Today I am again trying to get a response from Seller Support through the link they provide on the case history and find I cannot get a chat, a phone call or even send my email. Any suggestions as to how I can get someone to sort this out?

When did you register ? , and is your seller account fully verified ? - account verification can take quite a while.

Are you selling new copies of your book ?
If so, are you registered with HMRC as self-employed and have a Business seller account on Amazon ?
If not you cannot sell goods listed as New.

Thank you for your swift response. I set up the account on 11th July and presume it is fully verified as Amazon have been communicating with me as a merchant seller. Yes I am selling new copies of my book but am not yet registered with HMRC as self-employed but fully intend to do so. What is a Business seller account on Amazon? I have a merchant seller account. No one at Amazon has mentioned that I cannot sell goods listed as new unless I have a business seller account or am registered as self-employed with HMRC.

No-one at Amazon will tell you - they expect you to do your own research before starting to sell ! ** So Amazon expects new sellers to get their information in order to sell on Amazon from a third party? I did do lots of research including watching an Amazon tutorial video on selling and also a Youtube video for authors on setting up a seller account on Amazon. And I made loads of notes. I do have a UTR and would happily have given it to Amazon if I’d been asked. You refer to a Business Account, but it seems Amazon likes to use the word Business Account for businesses that are buying on Amazon, not selling. A merchant account is the term Amazon uses for selling. I had an old individual seller’s account on Amazon for selling second-hand books and duplicated book presents but wanted a merchant account and made that very clear in my dealings with Amazon. I was informed on 12th July that I was registered for Amazon’s Pro Merchant Selling Plan so I am allowed sell a new book.

Thank you for your reply. My individual seller account had been inactive for many years.

The books on my old account were either from my own collection or ones that had been given to me, definitely not ones I had bought with the intention of selling on.

Hi thank you, but I don’t understand. Above the listing status there is no “account status” and the asin is already in the inventory under Product Name ASIN

When I click on the holiday link and United Kingdom it says inactive and the words below come up. Did see this last week and contacted Amazon but didn’t get anywhere. So confusing that is says active on the inventory. My old account - i only sold about four second hand books around five years ago.

“If your listing status remains inactive after you successfully update the holiday settings, your listing might be inactive due to other reasons.”

JillyB1 and The_Little_Shop, thank you both for all your help and perseverance. I hope it is the case that they are still verifying my account. Yes, totally agree how unhelpful Amazon’s seller support is and I can’t believe how complicated and confusing their seller process is, especially as they have such an efficient and streamlined customer service. I suppose because of their almost monopolistic command of the marketplace as long as they keep customers happy they have no need to take care of their sellers. Thank you again. Fingers crossed my problem gets resolved.
