How do I figure out Amazon fees for selling used books?
I'm a new used book seller and I find the fees confusing.
- Is the fee a fixed percentage?
- What is it based on? (i.e. is it based on the total sale amount the customer pays, including the shipping credit?)
- Does it include the $0.99 that Amazon charges per item sold?
Thank you in advance for helping me out.

Since you mention the 99¢ fee, you must be on the individual plan.
Fees per book order are the same for the pro plan and the individual plan, with the exception of that fee -- that is only deducted on the individual plan.
Otherwise, you pay 15% which is computed on total of item plus shipping, plus a $1.80 closing fee.
Don't list too cheaply or you'll pay too high a percentage in fees.
I suggest a minimum of around ten dollars (or more). Certainly a higher minimum for heavy books.
On the individual plan you have no control over shipping charges so you must make sure you are going to come out enough ahead when listing heavy books.

There is a flat $1.80 fee for books, plus 15% commission on the total amount - book price plus shipping credit, and the 99 cent fee for individual sellers.
Please go through Seller University. There are specific modules on pricing, but you will probably benefit from going through the whole thing. If you have any specific questions after viewing all the videos, let us know.
