Refund request after a year

I have just received a refund request for something sent out in April 2024. They say they haven't received it and Amazon emailed them saying that their order was lost and to ask for a refund. I wouldn't refund after so long, but what about Amazon?

they shouldn’t after that time frame.

That’s quite a delayed request. Just for reference: Amazon’s own A-to-Z Guarantee only allows claims within 90 days of the estimated delivery date. If it’s been over a year, there’s absolutely no requirement for the seller to issue a refund and Amazon themselves won’t refund either (unless they decide to from their own pocket as a goodwill gesture).

If they do try to charge your account for it, definitely appeal it’s clearly against their own policy. That said, we’ve all seen Amazon go against their own rules from time to time, so it’s worth keeping a close eye on cases like this.

Interestingly, I've had 2 of these this week one from an order in May 24 and the other April 24, needless to say I politely rejected them both

Probably hoping you didn't notice the year of purchase (2024) and just refund the order thinking it was a 2025 order.

Exactly, I understand the buyer being cheeky or that he is a scammer. Why is amazon like this?!

Wonder what happens if the buyer claims this for an amazon purchase? I think they are pretty trigger happy when claims are made against third party sellers.

From March 17th, March 21st, March 22nd, April 1st, and April 9th of this year, one same buyer who purchased the same product. After each purchase, the buyer requested a refund, then made another purchase, requested a refund again, and so on. In total, the buyer has purchased the same product five times, but requested refunds four times. This has directly resulted in the flag for frequent returns. Also, orders fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) that were purchased two years ago can all receive a full refund upon return.
