Starting Again with Seller Central - HELP!

I stopped selling on Amazon a few years ago and, when I was going to close the store, I was advised not to by Amazon SC staff, but to set all my quantities to zero and not to delete the store. That way, if I ever wanted to come back to selling, I wouldn’t lose the status I had built up.

Now I want to start selling in TWO different fields, and would appreciate any help on how to proceed.

  1. I want to sell books. Just TWO books, but they are sold as sets of 2 (ie. each sale has 2 books in the parcel), but I have about 50 sets of it.

  2. I want to sell organic soaps, lotions and body oils made from organic essential oils. All the products have EANs and are made and sold by me (ie. I am not a reseller). I should mention that it operates as a sole trader legal status, not Ltd.

My original category was clothing retail, so I don’t even know if I can convert this to a new shop or I just have to open another one on the side.

How do I move forward with these 2 products please? Could I sell the books just the old way - no seller account, just list them and pay the Amazon fees with each sale?

Do I convert my existing seller account to the skincare account?

When I log onto my SC dashboard, I see:
Additional information required: Additional information is required for the verification of your Selling on Amazon payment account. Your selling privileges may be temporarily suspended if you do not provide the required information.

I’m guessing this is why I can’t see the call-back feature on my dashboard? The case log guys have been beyond TERRIBLE. The last person read all of the above and sent me details to change my password.

How do I move forward with this PLEASE? Amazon has been giving me the run-around for over a fortnight now.

Thanks, all!

I believe you will need approval for products of that nature, but someone will correct me if I’m wrong.

Was your original account a sole trader one?

If you already have a seller account then you can use that to sell any category of item as long as you have permission if they are categories that require it - beauty/healthcare being one of them.

You can open a second seller account but there are strict criteria to meet - it must be different category of items, have separate email, bank account, and there might be other criteria too (I can’t remember)

Not sure what you mean by that ?

You will need a seller ACCOUNT but you don’t need the Professional SELLING PLAN (monthly fee). However, you would have to do all your product sales that way: you can’t mix and match, by, say, selling books on the per-sale fee and organic products on the Pro plan. At least, you can if you open a second seller account, but that requires separate e-mail addresses and bank accounts, no mixing of sales between accounts, and both seller accounts must always be in good standing: if one is suspended, so will the other one. Probably not worth the hassle

If I understand correctly the account was sole trader before and will be sole trader now so there is nothing to do, you will just be listing in a different category than before (which may require un gating.)

Check all your account info is up to date and submit anything that isn’t (is it a different bank account?)

I sell in the health & beauty category and you definitely need to get authorisation to sell in there.

The problem you may encounter is that to sell in health and beauty you need an invoice from a wholesaler and as you manufacture the products yourself that may be problematic.

You can contact seller support. I struggled too until a very nice Amazon associate showed me how to do it.

Click on ‘help’ at the top right of the screen. Scroll right down to the bottom of the screen and click on ‘get support’ on the next screen click on ‘selling on amazon’. Ignore the box that says describe your issue. scroll down and you’ll see ‘or browse for your issue in the menu’. Click on that and it takes you to the old menu and you’ll be able to get help from a real person at Amazon.

Amazon really do not make life easy for sellers. It’s almost like they don’t want us to be successful on Amazon and throw out as many obstacles as they can to hamper our success.

Unfortunately, their one size fits all messages bear little if any relevance to the situation in hand. I’ve just had exactly the same problem as you with regard to account verification although I did eventually manage to figure out what they wanted from me eventually.

My acknowledgement said:-

Happy Selling!
Amazon Payments

I hate to break it to them but I’ve been selling on Amazon for almost a decade and have had an Amazon payments account for the entire time.

It’s about time that Amazon had a review of the standard emails in their email library to make sure the contents are relevant to the seller they are speaking to.

If you ignore the books aspect - perhaps find a different outlet for them? as a manufacturer you could also apply for Amazon Handmade. A professional selling plan is required, but if/when approved on Handmade, the monthly fee is waived. Amazon Handmade team seem to be pretty efficient and they would, I’m sure be able to convert your account to Amazon Handmade in your particular category.
I was a professional seller before AH came in and my existing products were converted by Amazon to the Handmade category extremely easily
When the products sell, they DO appear in the main searches (despite some on handmade thinking they don’t - it’s just some products aren’t selling enough, so they don’t get found in the main searches).
So, for instance your products would be found in a search, but if it was ‘drilled down’ to Health and personal care (for instance) they wouldn’t appear. But if a search were to be made on the ‘drill down’ of Handmade, they’d appear in that one.
