New company, same owners, new account

Hi,

Hope everyone is well and hoping someone can clarify this for me as I can’t seem to get a straight answer from seller support.

My current company who run this current Amazon account are starting a new company purely focused on retail. The old company will keep existing but will no longer do any retail business.
We understand we can’t transfer our current Amazon account to this new company so are looking to close our current Amazon account and start a new one.
Both companies have the same owners.
I understand I need to wait 90 days till the last sale before I can close the current account.
Can I start the process of my new account in the meantime or will this lead to trouble?

Thank you very much for any advice

I believe that there will still be info held on the old account so standard rules will apply -
2 different logins
2 different legal entities
2 different bank accounts
No selling in same category

Can the current account not just merge over to retail sales ?

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.
2 different logins: That should be fine. The new company will have new email addresses and phone numbers
2 different legal entities: Both companies are Limited companies but will be completely seperate (besides having the same owners)
2 different bank accounts: Both companies will also have different bank accounts
No selling in same category: The new account will be in the same category but should not be running at the same time as the old account, so would this be ok?

Unfortunately we can’t merge the current account as the two companies need to be completely seperate from eachother.

Thanks again for any help and advice

Is there not an option somewhere to transfer the account to new ownership?

Just had the below reply from Amazon as well:

Hello from Amazon Selling Partner Support,

We understand that you want to close your account.

If you want to open a new seller account in a different or the same Market place then you need to use a completely different email address and a new mobile number.

You can open another seller account at any time however the credentials that you use to register your new account should not be same as a previous/current account.

The old seller account if it is in the closure process or if it is active will not affect your new seller account if you are using different email address and phone number while registering them.

Blockquote

This makes it sound pretty straightforward but I somehow don’t think it can be that easy?

I’m really not convinced that SS advice is right.

My thoughts with the account transfer are that if I changed sole proprietor to ltd its the transfer account option I use and its still the same people so wondered if it was similar thats all

Thanks for everyone for the advice.
So it would appear that the transfer account option is the way to go here?
As the old and new company have the same owners there is a link between them so even closing the old account would not help.

Has anyone ever gone thought the transfer account process before? I imagine it might be quite a long process with lengthy downtime?

Thanks again for all the help

Can be done and I have done it, email seller verification and explain what it is you want to do and why. They will then email you back in a few days explaining how to go about it. By doing this Amazon will know what you are doing so this will hopefully prevent an account suspension on the running account.

Don’t list the same ASIN on both accounts you get banned
