Royal Mail Tracking

Am new on here so forgive my ignorance, I use RM Click and Drop for other marketplaces, but as I understand it, here we have to use tracking for every order? With Royal Mail the price then becomes nearer £4 as opposed to £1.32 to £1.72, so I stick with myhermes. Is this correct, is tracking compulsory or am I missing something with Royal Mail?

For a standard FBM account you send with the option you choose. You do not have to use Tracked or Signed For.
Bear in mind it is the consequences of lost or delayed deliveries which can effectively force sellers to choose a Tracked & Signed service.
There are hundreds of threads on this forum discussing these consequences already.

If you use Royal Mail 24/48 then that is fine. This has delivery confirmation. Your metrics wont be affected by using the services as long as you upload the parcel tracking numbers when you mark as dispatched (C&D can do this for you).
However, in the event of customer complaining of non receipt (it can still happen even if delivery is confirmed) it seems to be hit and miss as to whether Amazon accept the delivery confirmation. In these circumstances, you have to make a judgement call. If Amazon side with the customer then yes your metrics are affected and if you get too many they will take action.

Thanks all, but does Royal Mail large letter second class, that does not have some sort of tracking or delivery confirmation does it? That is acceptable to Amazon

The other thing to consider is whether you want to offer your customers the quicker premium shipping options. If you’re not sending using a fully tracked service it will affect your valid tracking rate %.

We use Royal Mail 48 and although a delivery confirmation is provided, technically this service isn’t classified as a fully tracked service. Strangely however, Amazon have always recognised the tracking number on our small parcels but not on our large letters. As a result, we usually have a valid tracking rate of about 70 - 80% and the eligibility to offer premium shipping keeps getting taken away.

All prime orders must have a valid tracking number if the item is not prime it does not need a tracking number, there is a percentage of 96-98% on tracked items so you can have 2-4% of your orders daily go un-tracked.

Seller Fulfilled Prime can make the product more expensive because the requirement to dispatch the order using a trackable service is not always cost effective especially on low value purchases. This is one of the disadvantages of selling low value orders.

Personally we have never used a tracked service on any order. Just signed for which shows the customer signature upon delivery which meets Amazon A-Z claims process.

Ive read on the forum some seller have used a tracked service which requires no signature a problem when defending against an A-Z claim. If there is a requirement that sellers should only use selected couriers using a tracked service then their tracking information should be made admissible.

What we have found some customers are reluctant to follow the claims process giving either the seller or the courier an opportunity to look into the matter and just demanding refunds.

If I had any mail going missing I would like the courier to look into what’s happened and not make things difficult for seller or the courier. I always found making things difficult usually draws adverse conclusions to any claim. Some customer requests a tracking number even if they haven’t paid for the order to be tracked. Also if the order fits through a standard letter box why would they say no card has been not left by the courier.

I just wanted to add why some customers contact the seller saying they haven’t received their order 10 days after the order was dispatched when the maximum days for delivery is 5 days. Also when asked have they checked with other members of the household they reply let me check.

Are the rates better using selected couriers ?

Can someone explain to me the insistence on Signatures.

They are NEVER recognisable
They NEVER indicate the real name of the recipient
Buyers regularly state - THAT is not my signature
Amazon very often refund even when the signature is one of the clearest in the history of digital signatures ! ! !

What’s the point?
