How will closing my Royal Mail account affect VTR
Apologies for another VTR query. I think I’ve got my head around it, but would like some advice.
We’re deregistering for VAT as we have fallen below the threshold.
Our VTR is currently 100% as we buy CRL48/24 via Amazon using our linked RM account.
Should we close our RM account and just use Buy Shipping via our old standard Click & Drop account? Will Royal Mail offer us other pricing for being none VAT registered? We expect we will need to close the account as the pricing won’t be beneficial without being able to claim back the VAT. We currently drop off our post anyway as rural collections locally were hit and miss.
I have read through tons of VTR related threads and keep seeing different contradicting advise.
Is the below info correct?
(standard) Letter
Using 1st/2nd Class via Buy Shipping count against VTR.
These should be marked Stamped/Franked to not affect VTR rating.
You cannot use an integrated Click and Drop account and have it auto dispatch as it will count against VTR. We should only manually dispatch using the stamp/franked option and avoid Buy Shipping.
Large Letter & Small Parcel
These are fine if purchased via Buy Shipping and count towards VTR.
You can use an integrated Click and Drop account and have it auto dispatch.
These are fine and result in a n/a VTR score

you can still use VAT exempt services on your RM Business account - code BPL and purchase directly through click and drop
its just that you will have to untick the mark as despatched on channel so that it doesn’t update amazon
you can then manually tick all the orders you have despatched and mark them as sent using stamps/franking
the other option of course is to use buy shipping - which will mean that letters are exempt, large letters are exempt, and parcels are valid - this however, is just buying from amazon directly - nothing to do with your RM account at all
i believe some of the amazon buy shipping prices are higher than your RM business account

oh and just to check that you’ve spoken with your accountant re deregistering
your username is print… and many print services are zero rated

Thank you @The_Little_Shop - Yes, we’ve checked with our accountant - appreciate you asking.
Think we will use the buy shipping route then, it’ll be less manual clicks and it helps against some delivery related feedback issues too.
Just to make sure, buying the below all via Buy Shipping (without any RM account linked/integrated).
Letters 1st/2nd Class - exempt from VTR via Buy Shipping
Large Letters 1st/2nd Class - exempt from VTR via Buy Shipping
Small Parcel 1st/2nd Class - valid VTR via Buy Shipping
If we sent no parcels (which is unlikely) our VTR score would be n/a.
If we sent a mix of the above (so letters and parcels) our VTR score would be 100%?
