Tracking number used twice
Morning all.
Had a strange one today.
I sold an item a month ago and it was signed and delivered via Royal Mail using signed for delivery.
Today I have received a package RTS. I opened it up and inside was an item I have never sold before. So I was a little confused.
I had to sign for the item today and they used the same tracking as I did. On RM website it now shows as having been delivered twice. Once to them and once to myself. I didn’t think this was possible? Not sure what to do. I have had no comminication from the buyer that they wanted to return an item so maybe the sent something back from another seller to the wrong address. Thoughts please?!

I suppose if the customer reuses the same packaging and marks it RTS, then the original tracking could well update. Strictly speaking I don’t think RTS parcels are supposed to be opened and the contents are definitely not supposed to be changed, but here you are.
Was the returned item similar to that originally sent? I suspect there is another seller somewhere with a returns request pending, waiting for this item to come back and the customer has mucked it up and used your address instead.
I’ve had this in the past with returns. You could do nothing and I doubt you’d hear any more about it. Alternatively contact the customer and let them know what’s happened. That will probably end up with you footing the bill to send it back to him though.

Completely different item. They sent a small lampshade and I sent a board game. Think they must have sent it back using my packaging as it was about the right size by mistake. To be honest their item probably cost less than a tenner so will leave it for the time being and see if they contact me. The name they put fao at top of parcel was different to mine so I think an error
