Can we use stamps?

I use Buy Shipping for all my FBM orders. However I have been gifted a box full of first class stamps and I was wondering if I could use them to get rid of a load of old DVDs and books that I no longer want.

As above reply, no - even though their info STILL mentions stamps/franking "1st and 2nd Class Letter stamps and franking purchased through Amazon Buy Shipping" - you cannot buy stamps/franking via Buy Shipping !!!! - many sellers had to get rid of their franking machines !

Have the stamps got barcodes? I only ask because I was posting a letter recently with a stamp from a drawer and was told that it had no barcode and could no longer be used. As other posters have advised stamps do not comply with VTR and therefore cannot be used.

That's a shame as I have quite a pile built up as compo when I claim with RM for lost items from Amazon buyer claims (I use letter rate a lot and pop the post into the post box rather than drive miles for the proof of postage)

RM used to give out cheques for lost/damaged items not stamps!

Theres a swap pout scheme on Royal Mail where you can trade in old stamps and they will replace them for you, free of charge, so even a few older ones will be upgraded to the current standard/price.

royalmail com sending/barcoded-stamps

They have to be valid for use, like Happy_Hare1 says.
