Royal Mail Tracked taking longer than 24/48h for delivery

We’re currently sending all FBM items via RM Tracked 24/48 (we’ve connected our RM business account to Amazon and are using C&D to generate labels). However, for the past 10 days or so, RM have been VERY slow to deliver items!

e.g. We had 2 one-day delivery orders, one was delivered a day later and the other one is showing as still in transit. These were shipped via RM Tracked 24.

As we have very few FBM orders (we rely mostly on FBA), I’m concerned that this will impact both our on-time delivery rate AND our premium shipping eligibility… I mean, when a buyer pays £ extra for one-day delivery and the package still hasn’t arrived 2 days later…

We ship all orders on time and we get RM collections Monday to Friday.

Has anyone had slow delivered with RM lately? Will this have a negative impact on our metrics (even though tracking shows the orders were promptly dispatched within the promised dispatch times)? It’s clear from the tracking info that the delays are on RM’s side since the items are showing as dispatched/received by RM on time… so obviously not our fault.

Thanks

RM24/48 is not, despite the name, guaranteed delivery within 24/48 hours. It baffles me why Amazon even offer this as a service for premium delivery.

We have found the best way to deal with premium delivery orders is to send them all as special delivery (and charge accordingly).

My record last year with RM was for one 24h tracked package to take 5 days. That’s the main reason I’m trying FBA this year. At the moment my FBM listings show ‘standard’ (i.e. 2nd class) postage, but I’m actually sending all items 1st class to compensate for the RM delays.

Another lesson learned from last year was to NEVER trust posting items via an actual postbox. I’d been buying postage via Amazon and then foolishly trusting RM to deliver the items without losing them. This year I’ve signed up for RM’s “Drop and Go” thing, so at least I can get certificates of posting for everything (and I also enjoy swanning past the queues of people and dropping my post off at the counter). Mind you, the stuff I dropped off at 4pm yesterday doesn’t appear to have been processed yet, so instead of them losing/delaying one item at a time they can now potentially lose a whole bag of items in one go.

I guess my next step will be to use RM’s business service and get them to come and pick up parcels directly from me. Does anyone else do this, or do you physically go down to the post office (or is there another trick I’m missing?!)
