Account suspended- amazon requires VAT number (not applicable for my business)

Hello sellers !
Is there any UK based seller who has had a same issue like me? To explain better, my UK seller account was suspended due to the missing UK VAT number. I keep arguing with Amazon people I am not legally obligated to be registered in UK for VAT unless I exceed the current VAT threshold which is 85,000 GBP. I physically store products in UK and my company is a UK establishment (UK resident) it is not a foreign company. I keep getting the same generic email over and over saying" all non UK businesses must obtain VAT registration numbers". I have created numerous cases, numerous emails sent to different emails addresses trying to get to the right (competent) people who are able to assess my situation; however, so far I have been unsuccessful. I am kind of desperate now. Has anyone had a similar issue and was able to sort it out? I will be glad for any help. Thank you.

This may be due to Amazon Purging NETP type business utilising a virtual office to register for VAT, if you are a NETP you should register for VAT from the outset. Your company shows your director as a resident of Slovakia.

There are numerous posts relating to this issue, the one below has some relevance here;

If you’re an NETP (see section 9), and you make any taxable supplies in the UK - you must register for either VAT, the VAT Mini One Stop Shop (VAT MOSS) or both

You need to register for VAT in the UK and righty so.
Or you have no chance of getting the account reinstated.

Yes , i have the same problem . Amazon are ruining my job and business , i think i close Amazon account , Uk business and remove products . This is ridiculous :slight_smile: I don’t open VAT because i don’t have 85k turnover. Have a nice day !

You are recorded as a director at companies house as a resident of Slovakia, this is why Amazon have flagged the account , you are a NETP so should have been registered for VAT from the outset, to continue selling and reinstae the account you need to register for VAT. In addition any VAT payments that should have been paid will be demanded by HMRC.

In addition this accountants firm that has setup mutliple large volume NETP style UK Limited companies at one specific virtual office address , may be less than helpful when they realise their client base all face VAT and TAX liabilities due to their incorrect and what appear VAT avoidance advice, it’s quite clear as a NETP VAT Registration is required from the outset and has been the case for some time, it is only now HRMC and Amazon are now purging the platform of this arrangement.

They are not giving you correct info Giorgito
You need to send Amazon email that you UK incorporated LTD .Two of my friends were allowed to sell again from suspended status today when they sent email here : vat-number-appeals@amazon.com
Both directors are non UK residents
Write them your company number,attach certificate of incorporation and state you are UNDER VAT threshold of 85k
Good luck and give it a few days as they are processing many sellers now.

This is not correct if the UK Establishment is a virtual office only as in the case here.

Since 1 December 2012, the standard UK registration threshold hasn’t been available to non-established taxable persons (NETPs). If you’re an NETP, you must register for VAT if you make any taxable supplies in the UK.
