Return from Europe
Hi Guys,
Long time reader first time poster.
so I have a return from Germany which is fine, returns are expected now and then.
I requested the buyer package the item so I can arrange the return and the customer did so, I expected it to be packaged in the same packaging as received.
I have now received a bill from DHL for £265 because the buyer has used some ridiculously oversized box.
So I am now down delivery fee, return fee and also an additional £265 as an early Christmas present.
Where do I stand on this? I assume as it is sold on amazon there is nothing I can do and have to take it on the chin.
Any advice welcome
thanks

If you didn’t specify in the returns procedure how to do this it seems difficult to penalise the buyer. Out of curiosity - what was the item and how large was the packaging? I ship wooden crates, big enough to lie in, round the world for less than that.

Could that bill actually be for customs duties rather than a big box ?

I’ve found DHL to be good with processing the returns correctly in regards to the VAT relief.
So what do you guys think? I just have to take it on the chin or is there anything I can do?
I haven’t had any a-z yet and wish to avoid that but I just don’t think it is fair as the customer hasn’t used the original packaging.

has it possibly been sent by DHL Air and not DHL Road?
