Downgrading to a basic seller account

Hi all…Im seriously thinking of downgrading from a pro to basic selling account , with the reason being i am not making enough sales to justify paying the monthly subscription fee. Ive read elsewhere that if you dont make at least 30-40 sales a month, then a pro account is not worth paying for and its better to sell on a basic account.
Well as it stands i make nowhere near that amount…So before i downgrade, my question is, can i still sell items in the same category as i am at the moment? The category in question is hair care products (shampoos etc)

Any advice will be appreciated
Regards

… unless you use some of the features that are only available to pro accounts, like setting your own FBM P&P fees.

It is actually about 34 items a month to draw even. Once you downgrade you will then pay an extra 89p (approx.) per sale.
As Barry says, you will no longer be able to set your own P&P.
You can always upgrade again if sales increase.

Downgrading is a subscription only exercise, it should not interfere with your ability to sell in your current categories.

However, there are other business relates issues to bear in mind.

You cannot set your own postage rates, buy box eligibility will be removed, as will access to some business reports and inventory management features.

Do you sell across Europe too? Thats another consideration.

35 is the financial break even point, for me the business benefits point is somewhat lower.

I’ve dropped mine for the time being as well. You will have to jiggle your prices to accommodate the postage fees but i am still getting a couple of sales .
Will go back to subscription when things pick up.
I have done this once before and when you are ready to upgrade again everything will be there as before but Amazon will take the £30 fee straight away

Just done it. Postage a bummer but I can live with that. Probably next step leave altogether.

One thing worth doing before a downgrade is to download all the reports you can, as you won’t be able to afterwards.

The inventory reports can be handy for investigating when things go wrong.
Having a snapshot of inventory can be useful.

It depends on whether the category is restricted or not.

Downgrading your Seller Account’s plan from Professional to Individual will cause you to lose all approvals for gated brands and restricted categories, so you will need to reapply.

If you are already not satisfied with your sales, keep in mind that once you downgrade, you will lose the BuyBox eligibility and your sales will be even lower (unless you are not dependent on having the BuyBox due to selling on listings with numerous other sellers).

You could try go the other way and get over the hurdle i.e. expand your product range with items which have a better profit margin or better develop your own unique products, use sponsored ads as well as trying out FBA. It’s not easy to begin with and certainly there are financial risks, however if you do succeed you’ll be able to turn your business into a full time income.

Its also worth mentioning that dropping to basic means you’ll be back on the 14 day payment cycle so you’ll have to plan accordingly.
