Read onlyJust received a phone call from apparently Royalmail revenue protection. They advised upon sampling my post they found on three occasions that something should have been posted as large letter got posted as letter and now they would like to personally visit me to discuss this.
Anyone had this before…
I think this must be because of the air in package or something which I can happily resolve but since they called me from a mobile and sent me an email and no proper written letter, how do I know that this is genuine RoyalMail person…
I mean anyone can create fake IDs these days to visit you…
That sounds very odd. I really would be surprised if RM visited anyone let alone for something so minor - you would be more likely to get a demand letter!
I have never heard of RM Inland Revenue. -
Thanks
Sorry I meant to say Royalmail revenue protections, I will correct my post now…
had this ruined me (nearly)
do it to the letter for three months
This is quite normal and nothing to worry about. Revenue Protection regularly sample prepaid/PPI/franked etc and I had dealing with them in the early days of PPI.
If they pickup on a few errors they refer it to a local ‘Field Rep’ who basically come for a friendly chat and help to guide you through the process to check you are doing everything right and answer any questions. Our local Field Rep is great and if we ever have any questions we just call his mobile as he can get answers far quicker than we or customer service can.
It is likely the Field Rep actually called you from their mobile. To be on the safe side, if you pop into your local delivery office they will have a contact number for your local main sorting hub, which is where your revenue protection is located. They do also keep a log of sampled mail so they can confirm if this is genuine for you.
We have an area manager for Royal Mail who visits us every now and then to advise us of any cost saving methods of postage. We’ve also been informed that if your post is sorted into correct sizes and postal classes when they pick up the post then they will offer discounts as it is less for them to process and sort through.
By all means calling out of the blue does seem strange but I’d get some form of proof to be sure that they are from Royal Mail as they may save you time and more importantly money*
*money saved to be spent on losses from Amazon!!!
This does happen.
The royal mail service is very easy to manipulated as its pretty much self regulated by the sender.
RP will do monthly checks on postage to make sure weights qtys and formats are all correct.
If they are not they will check daily.
If you repeatedly get caught out they have been known to refuse everything and hold for up to 5 working days as well as including extra charges to cover the cost of checks and returning the mail.
This has all been implemented due to some large well known fraudulent cases that have happened in the past few years.
We have had a similar issue in the past and due to new staff just blamed this as the potential issue so no visit was required.
That’s great, all of you. Thank you so much for helping.
So sounds like normal thing, fingers crossed…
Best you start baking some cakes . Don’t forget to find out if the visiting party has any special requests , vegetarian / sugar free / halaal / kosher etc
It is odd to be called, when we have had this issue they usually just send an email.
This is normal, apparently they are stepping up procedures, some call some visit. They are also likely to tell you that if this happens again or if your manifest paper work dose not match your mail they’ll hold the mail for a couple of days and charge you.
