The article I read, which I have failed to find, made reference to a seller still being able to sell Nike trainers bought from the Nike outlet store. Amazon said the encourage unoffical genuine products.

This is ridiculous. If a customer complained they were fake there is no way they would accept a retail receipt from the Nike outlet shop.

For my understanding, this is actually a good news.
Firstly because it will mainly target drop shippers and sellers that are listing duplicate listings for the same product in order to divert sales from the original listing that they could not compete with.
Additionally brands that will be invited to this programme are being measured for accuracy of their claims, which will prevent abuse of the programme.
Finally it is not possible for some dodgy seller to join the programme as it is invitation only and purely for well known long established brands.

I think that “Project Zero” is really the codename for the removal of marketplace sellers…. ( zero being the ultimate goal!)
If these select brands genuinely remove counterfeiters all well and good, but this once again is open to abuse.
Will competing brands listings be removed in error?
Will smaller honest sellers find themselves suspended without warning for selling used but genuine articles often in Vg or other conditions which are not being picked up by bots or AI as the article prefers to call them?
There are plenty more considerations to take on board before launching such a project which transfers power to outside players where the Big Brands often play dirty.

I really do hope though it does get rid of the dropshippers, counterfeiters, duplicate listings and improves the Amazon marketplaces as intended…we will see.

I got an email telling me that some of the products I used to send mingled are now going to require stickers. I wonder if this move is linked to the original posting.

I am not impressed as there has been no warning and this is going to reduce my profit on every unit by 15p.

This is worrying if in the wrong hands and I can see no way of this being policed fairly.

Last year we had a wholesaler who decided to supply Amazon directly that we had suspected for a while but they denied it. On the higher priced items where we were competitive, then out of the blue the wholesaler frightened us and other retailers by implying we were selling IP goods that we were not at liberty to sell from a parent company of theirs and suggested we removed ourselves from those listings so we didn’t receive action from Amazon. In turn, they also stopped supplying us until we had met the demands. This basically paved the way for the wholesaler to sell on Amazon at a higher price as there was no competition, hence there was no point trying to reinstate a selling relationship with them.

The issue we have is that we legitimately purchased so say IP items. We had to prove to Amazon with the correct information and that takes time and resources whilst the perpetrator can carry on trading as normal.

I feel this project X and with the ongoing hijacking of listing brands will lead to what is already a minefield in the Amazon marketplace. This may be Amazon’s part answer to attempting to fix they’re bastardised and duplicated catalogue listings using third parties, but it just seems more like the wild west to me as the most profitable listings having the biggest bounty to be branded.

We already discussed this topic on the Amazon USA Seller Forum yesterday, where Amazon staff also contributes into discussions.

While currently the program is only available for a few selected brands, it will definitely expand with an option for everyone to join in the future.

Imagine all those bogus private label brands, created only for the purpose of protecting ASINs with generic unbranded Chinese items who will be freely removing their competitor’s listings in a matter of seconds and getting them suspended.

This is something, which is so easy to abuse and as we all know Amazon, the poor victims will then have to fight to get their listings/ suspended accounts back.
