How to reduce FBA Inventory UPS Shipping Costs

Hello all,

i'm looking to learn how to reduce shipping costs when sending stock to an FBA warehouse (usually through UPS)

Are there any techniques i can use to reduce the cost of the shipment? - for example, if i were to use one consistent size of box rather than a range of sizes, does this reduce my shipping cost?

What other things help drive down the price!

Many thanks

Hey there!

Great question on cutting down those UPS shipping costs to FBA warehouses—it’s definitely smart to optimize this part of your operations! Here are a few tips and tricks you can try:

Consolidate Box Sizes: Using one consistent size of box, especially one that fits your products snugly without wasted space, can indeed help reduce costs. This reduces the dimensional weight, which is often a factor in shipping costs. Plus, consistent box sizes can make packing and inventory management smoother.

Pack Efficiently: Make sure each box is packed tightly and efficiently. Avoid using oversized boxes filled with lots of dunnage (packing materials) if a smaller box would do. Not only does this save on shipping costs, but it also helps reduce material costs and waste.

Use Amazon’s Partnered Carrier Program: Amazon offers discounted shipping rates through their Partnered Carrier Program. By using this service, you might find better rates than you’d get booking directly with UPS.

Ship to the Nearest Fulfillment Center: Sometimes, Amazon allows you to choose which fulfillment center to send your inventory to. Opting for the closest possible locations can significantly reduce transit costs.

Consider Prepaid Shipping: Prepay for your shipping labels if you have a consistent and predictable volume of shipments. Prepaid options can offer deeper discounts compared to pay-as-you-go.

Optimize Shipping Schedules: Bulk shipments can reduce costs compared to more frequent, smaller shipments. If you can predict your inventory needs well, sending larger shipments less often might save you some cash.

Compare Other Carriers: Don’t forget to occasionally check rates from other carriers like FedEx or DHL, or even look into freight consolidators. Sometimes promotions or specific routes can offer savings.

Lastly, always keep an eye on the fine print and any changes Amazon might make to their FBA requirements or fees—it can really make a difference to stay informed!

Hope these tips help a bit.

Mine is not a ChatGpt answer.

The best way is to use bigger boxes. My boxes are 62x47x47cm.

up to 14kg.

I don't believe that is the case any more. It used to be that the cost doubled above 15kg but that is no longer the case. I frequently pack more than 15kg with little to no increase in the fee.

If only Amazon were transparent with the way the fees are calculated, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

There was a time when they announced a "50% off" promotion and the fees actually went up.

But you can't argue that the prices are good and in my experience (not the same as others), the service is excellent.

It is 14kg not 15kg anymore.

It will increase after 14kg.

You can play around a little with a dummy shipment.
