Selling only in the UK - VAT CONFUSION
Hi there, I am about to become a new seller in the UK and I am so confused about the VAT.
If my turnover is under 85k do Amazon deduct any VAT from me? Do I pay any VAT to the authorities?
Does Amazon charge VAT on my sellers fee…it’s so mind boggling. I would really appreciate your help in any way, thank you kindly x

If you are based in the UK and under 85k then you do not need to charge VAT on your sales, Amazon will give you all fees / calculations including EU VAT. You dont need to do anything. If you go over 85k and register for VAT, Then you put that number in your amazon settings and they will remove VAT from the fees under the EU VAT reverse charge system, you dont need to worry about that though yet.

Assuming you are UK based then a quick summary
- If your turnover is under 85K for a rolling 12 month period you do not need to register for VAT
- As you are not VAT registered you cannot charge VAT on any sales you make
- Amazon will charge VAT on all fees which will be charged at the point the payment is taken. Please note that all fee previews on Amazon are before VAT is taken
- You still need to provide an Invoice to business customers. You can sign up for a free Amazon service which will do this for you.
If you are not UK based different rules apply.
