Creating my own brand
Hello, for the past couple months I been working on my own brand.
My own packaging, ltd company, website etc. I want to sell it on amazon.
Do I need to have EAN barcodes on the packaging or is fnsku barcode enough?
Thank you for help!

You’ll need EAN codes to create the listing and depending on your product, you can send into amazon on these codes instead of fnsku codes
Do you have a trademark ?

There is a whole host of help surrounding brands, so I suggest you start by going through it.

I have GTIN exemption for my products, but I produce them myself, and own the trademarks. I was allowed GTIN exception before I got the Brand Registry application sorted too.
The whole thing is a long process, with lots of back and forth. Took me almost 3 months to sort everything out.
Good luck!

That does indeed sound complicated, as you don’t manufacture the products.
I thought that the EAN thing was to identify EXACT products so no matter who sells them (or rebrands them) the customer knows it’s the same product. So anyone bulk buying on Alibaba (for example) has to compete with eachother offering the same item (based on the manufacturer, quality and materials).
In my case I didn’t know whether I was obligated to have EAN, ASIN, or whatever else. And without selecting something from the pull down menu the item wouldn’t list. My account manager was helpful in this particular matter, and superseeded all the automated responses I was getting, and managed to get me the GTIN excemption.

If you are rebranding you don’t need to use the original EANs. You could apply for GTIN exemption since your new packaging won’t retain the original EAN on it. This will then be a totally new catalogue entry (ASIN) which you will need to probably promote with PPC advertising to get going. Factor a fair amount of money to do this.
You should do this before any packaging design or production. If you are creating a PL Brand you need to make sure you don’t invest money into any production before you lock down the rights to it.
