Do amazon allow us to have an Amazon Associates account?

I would like to set up an Amazon Associates account with the same entity (company, email address etc) that I use to sell on Seller Central, but can’t find any information on whether or not this is permitted by Amazon?

As always I asked seller support first and they responded with a blanket template of utter nonsense.

It is important that the account details you are using to be correct and comply with the Terms and Conditions from Seller Central and Amazon Associates.

Your application will be evaluated and notify you of its acceptance or rejection.
