Is this a genuine Amazon email address?

My account was suspended last year and after several failed Plan of Actions it sounds like they really don’t want to reinstate my account so there’s no point in fighting it any further.

They’ve been holding onto my £738 balance for about 6 months now and if they don’t want to re-instate me, I’d like my funds back (not holding my breath).

I emailed payments-investigate@amazon.co.uk as per their most recent message about returning my funds.

I received a message about 12hours later from tam-general@amazon.co.uk (message pasted below). My feeling is that it is a genuine message from Amazon as it’s very relevant to the question I asked, although the message itself seems a bit dodgy. Sounds like they’re saying ‘Sure, carry on selling under a new email address, but we’ll keep the funds associated to your old account’.

Any advice would be much appreciated! Here’s the message they sent me:

Hello from Amazon Selling Partner Support,

After reviewing your request, I understand that you want to restore your selling account. I have reviewed your account and understand that your account is terminated. We are unable to restore terminated selling accounts.

We encourage you to open a new seller account on Amazon, if you wish to continue selling. You can use the same email address from the terminated account to open a new account.

When your previous selling account was closed, your Amazon shopping or buyer account associated with that email address remained open and contains your purchase history, including any digital content that you purchased.
We strongly advise that you use a new email address when creating your new selling account.
If you decide you still want to use your old email address, you will need to make a decision if you want to retain your purchase history or not.

Option 1: Retain your purchase history and digital content

This will require you to change the email address currently associated with that Amazon shopping or buyer account.

To change the email address on this account:

           1. Sign in to Amazon using the email address.
           2. Under Accounts & Lists, click Your Account.
           3. Click Login & security at the top of the page.
           4. Click Edit next to Email.
           5. Enter the new email address and password that you want associated with the account, then click Save changes.

After changing the email address on this account, you are now free to create a new account using your old email address:

           1. Under Accounts & Lists, click Not [Your Name]? Sign Out.
           2. Click Create your Amazon account.
           3. Fill in the form and click Create your Amazon account.
           4. Click Create a new account with this email address.
           5. Once you have created your new account, you can register it as a selling account:

Option 2: Delete your purchase history and digital content

Proceed to create a new account using your old email address:

           1. Under Accounts & Lists, click Not [Your Name]? Sign Out.
           2. Click Create your Amazon account.
           3. Fill out the form and click Create your Amazon account.
           4. Click Create a new account with this email address.
           5. A pop-up warning will be displayed informing you that there is an account already associated with your email address. Click Create a new account anyway.

Your prior purchase history, including any digital content, will be deleted and you can register your new account as a selling account:

It appears to be a genuine email address. But just in case, have you hovered your mouse over it and does it show the same address? If it doesn’t, it’s phishing or something along those lines.

However, the advice received, seems more than a little dodgy!
What exactly is the history of your original account? Why did they close you down?

If you just open a new account, then it’s highly likely that it will just get shut down again, as they will link it to the old account.
It actually seems like they have misunderstood what you have asked, rather than purposely misguiding you to be honest.
You could verify it by contacting seller support, or better still, contact via the MD’s email and get a definitive answer as to whether it’s right or not.

Although it does seem to be a genuine email, it also doesn’t seem to offer very good advice - perhaps that’s what makes it more genuine

If you want your funds then as per Amazon’s policy it is disbursement-appeals@amazon.co.uk you need to be contacting.
