Who is responsible for paying import duties? The seller or the buyer?

Hello community,

We sell via our UK account into most of the EU regions. We have knowledge of how IOSS works but wanted guidance on orders over £135 / 150 EUR or B2B sales. Which is the most recommended shipping method to use and who is responsible for paying the import duties, the seller or the buyer?

Please help

Regards

I do not sell overseas, BUT my understanding is that the customer should never have to pay more than the advertised price of the item, so any customs, fees, duties etc are the responsibility of the seller - will stand corrected if I am wrong !

Hi there, thank you for your response!

Have you seen this information somewhere in black and white that we can get a reference to?

Thanks for your help!

Put in blue search box at top of this page 'Who pays import duties' and the info will come up as Important information for international Sellers, or search in Amazon Seller University for policies etc.

Hi @Seller_XFY3Eo3440fVg,

When selling from UK to EU, for orders over €150/£135 you (the seller) need to handle VAT payments. For B2B sales to VAT-registered EU customers, you're responsible for both VAT and import duties, regardless of the order value.

While we don't recommend specific shipping methods, please note that without IOSS, your buyers might need to pay additional EU taxes and duties to receive their orders.

Cheers, Ezra!
