Just started with merchant fulfilled. I have a ton of new VHS tapes, question is can I sell them or are VHS gated for me?

Cheers.

How do you define ‘new’ ?

Unless bought from an official distributor (which seems unlikely with a defunct format) I think you’d have a job convincing Amazon that they are ‘new’.

As far as Amazon’s rules are concerned, it is not just about the physical condition. Even unused and factory sealed media is not supposed to be listed as ‘new’ unless you have recent authorised invoices.

That aside, do you think there is actually a market for your VHS tapes?:vhs:

You should be ok selling them as ‘used like new’ although a lot of VHS titles are, mysteriously, gated.

If you mean blank VHS then no i don’t think they are gated, although you can easily check that yourself. If they are films, then i don’t think they’d be gated given their age - i’ve just been able to list a couple whereas for most DVD i can’t.

Also be aware that new must actually mean new with the accompanying proof.

Edit - i may have gotten lucky with the few i tried given the post above. Regardless, the answer to “is X gated?” is usually “what happens when you try to list it?”.

Thanks everyone. Yeah my account is individual so I may just start with books instead.

Yeah thought as much I don’t need to be registering for anything until I’m at 12,5k of course if I’m successful in achieving that I’ll register :slightly_smiling_face:

VHS are hard to sell and remember that unlike DVDs they will cost £3.20 to send by Royal Mail.(small parcel 2nd class).
We still have a few listed but they really are slow sellers.

Ok cheers guys so basically:

You have a basic individual account for selling your own items and you need to open a business account if selling for profit and before that you need to register as a sole trader? Yea?

Once I’ve hit 12,5k or my allowance then I declare it to the tax man?

Don’t waste your time. People don’t even buy DVDs at the prices you would need to charge in order to make a profit. You would have to price them at such a high level you wouldn’t sell them, and then you would have to lower the price so much you would end up selling at a loss.

Thanks for all the help guys, who wants to buy all these VHSs off me :joy: yeah I mean I currently have an individual account and plan to sell a few of my own items first to get my feet wet.

I’ll practice using the scanner and once I’m comfortable will register as a business and upgrade my account. Wish me :four_leaf_clover:

Don’t sell here. Sell on eBay. Lower fees better audience for VHS.
