Business Buyers Buying Non Business Related Items

Time for a bit of a moan about something that has been niggling me for ages. Why can a business buyer purchase non business related items? Over the past year I’ve had business buyers purchase children’s books, top shelf men’s magazines and the like. The most recent being a paperback Woeful Second World War (Horrible Histories) that was purchased methinks as a gift as the buyer’s surname was the same as the person it was sent to though the first name was different. It only earned me £2.49 but my grouse is that I have to wait until mid December for the invoice to be paid. Surely a business account should be for the purchase of business related items only.

Rant over.

I assume because business buyers are VAT registered they’re able to buy anything as a B2B transaction?

I sell greetings cards and also get the odd business buyer, maybe it’s automatic.

You could send the company a copy invoice to their offices, wonder what they would make of the purchases then?

Lots of small businesses put personal expenditure through their business bank account and let their accountant sort the mess out at the end of the year.

I sell superhero baby clothes and wonder the same - unless the company is a modelling or photography business for children, I can’t help but wonder how this is for business…

Maybe they have a waiting room. Maybe they’re a professor. Maybe they teach english on the side. Maybe its a film or photo prop. Maybe it’s a doorstop…

There’s probably a very simple explanation.

I have two accounts, one seller account and one buyer account. I don’t want to buy anything on my seller account even though that is business related. So everything I buy goes through my buying account, both privite and business purchases.

At the moment the buying account is a personal account, however Amazon keep badgering me to change it to a business account. So what do I do, try and set up another buying account just for business, or just change my buying account over and continue to use for everything?

What drives me mad is the new rule to send an invoice to Business customers within 24 hours of payment clearing - or you get in trouble. My “Business” invoices are few and far between so I don’t have/need fancy integrated systems (I sell mostly kids jewellery). But when I do have to produce an invoice - for something that’s very unlikley to really be for business use - it takes 5 or 10 mins for a sale that was a few quid profit - effectively turning the sale in to a loss. MEH! (and no, I won’t activate Amazon’s VAT calculation service - I have heard the stories about people being owed thousands for mistakes. I used to be a bookkeeper so am happy doing it myself!) :grimacing:

Although, there have been many occassions where I’ve been logged in to my Amazon Business account and accidentally ordered an item that was meant to be for my personal account (then had to faff about with my books to show it as a dividend) so other customers may make that mistake too.

Thankfully it wasn’t top shelf mags… :flushed:

Would the magazine be identified as top shelf though?
Plenty organisations require books and mags as part of their business. Waiting rooms etc.
