More and more people trying to defraud us

We are seeing an increase in the number of people demanding their item for free. It usually goes something like this

  1. receive an email in terrible English demanding a refund for an item because of a fault
  2. we give return details on amazon and out of amazon with offer a swap or refund
  3. person replies saying they are disabled and cannot go to a shop to return
  4. we offer collection service or give details on how to book with a collection return with Evri and we will refund the cost
  5. customer replies with some abuse and threats to write a poor review about how terrible a company we are.

This seems to be a well worked strategy, which usually ends with the person doing an A-z claim, amazon giving it and then telling us there is nothing we can do to get either our product or our money back.

I know Amazon’s automation, seller support and anything to do with 3rd party sellers has dramatically got worse over the last 10 years because they do not care and know for every UK seller that leaves there are ten more (foreign) based sellers joining, but it is getting really silly now. People know how to get free stuff because of how Amazons automation works and are abusing it.

Would be nice if we could collate “bad customers” for third party sellers so we can choose to block these people from being able to defraud us, let them all buy from Amazon.

I’ve had almost the exact same issue today, although in the A-Z email it does state "The claim was submitted for an incorrect reason. While we understand that the customer has not submitted a return request, you need to provide a return address so that the customer can return the item to you.
If you do not have a return address in the UNITED KINGDOM, you must offer a pre-paid return label. You can also issue a refund without asking the customer to return the order. This choice may be less expensive for you.
