1 Day shipping or 2 Day Shipping?
We are looking to add next working day delivery as an option for customers, but are a little bemused by the criteria including Saturday delivery.
If we use Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day (Monday to Friday) do we need to select the 1 Day Shipping option or the 2 Day Shipping option?
On the ‘Requirements for One-Day Shipping’ page here,
it states ‘Orders received before 1.00 pm on Friday need to be picked, packed and shipped on Friday ready for a Saturday delivery.’
We can ship orders placed before 2pm Monday to Thursday for next day delivery, however the standard Royal Mail Special Delivery service excludes Saturdays, so orders placed before 2pm Friday would be delivered the next working day (i.e. Monday).
Using those rules I believe that we would need to use the ‘2 Day Shipping’ option even though orders placed 6 days of the week would be delivered in 1 day,
Ordered Monday before 2pm - Shipped Monday - Delivered Tuesday
Ordered Tuesday before 2pm - Shipped Tuesday - Delivered Wednesday
Ordered Wednesday before 2pm - Shipped Wednesday - Delivered Thursday
Ordered Thursday before 2pm - Shipped Thursday - Delivered Friday
Ordered Friday before 2pm - Shipped Friday - Delivered Monday (Saturday not a delivery day)
Ordered Saturday before 2pm - Shipped Monday - Delivered Tuesday
Ordered Sunday before 2pm - Shipped Monday - Delivered Tuesday
Could anybody who uses Royal Mail Special Delivery Next Day please clarify?
(I understand that we could use the Saturday Guarantee Special Delivery but this is not cost effective and will effectively increase the cost for all customers as we will need to increase the cost for all orders to cover the additional cost of the Saturday Guarantee).

If you have Royal mail business account you can use SP delivery Saturday for extra charges from I remember it is £0.50 or less.
otherwise you can use tracked 24h but will not be guarantee.

Not ideal but RM SD sent on a friday will most likely be delivered saturday but not guaranteed

You can remove the Next Day option on a Thursday Evening and reinstate it after 2pm on a Friday - no Saturday deliveries would then occur.
Or, you can just price it to account for Saturday Guaranteed Special Delivery regardless of when the order comes in - makes it more expensive than it needs to be though - just as you say.
It would only increase the cost for those customers who choose to choose Next Day shipping. It’s the customer who increases the cost of their order - not you.
