VAT Charges to Seller Fees
Hi there,
I have recently been approved on amazon as VAT exempt due to the fact I earn under the £85,000 threshold . Amazon should have stopped charging me VAT on the seller fees as of the day I got approved however they still haven’t. Can anyone help me with how long this exemption normally takes to apply.
Thanks.

Did you use the automated tool for exemption which results in Amazon sending receipts to buyers on your behalf, or open a case for exemption and supply proof of being a business to stop the VAT?
They are two different things. Also you aren’t exempt due to being under the threshold, you are potentially exempt due to where you and Amazon are located.

Hi ,
No I submitted proof of being a business to Amazon and they approved it and said I was registered as vat exempt on seller fees however I am still paying VAT on my fees after this .

Sorry to jump on this.
If we’re a sole trader, under the vat threshold based in the UK, we shouldn’t be paying vat on our selling fees?
That seems odd.

I don’t understand this as being a business registered for VAT in the UK I have to charge VAT to all of my customers. Whether they are VAT registered or not. Do Amazon not have to follow the same rules?
