Read onlyHello Sellers,
Eye popping isn't it?
Well, when it comes to shopping, the visual aspect is also crucial. The quality, clarity and composition of your images play a significant role in attracting buyers and encouraging them to take a closer look. To make a lasting first impression on buyers, consider the following examples when updating your images:
Main Image
On pure white background (RGB colour values of 255, 255, 255)
Has high resolution zoom (at least 1600 pixels on the longest side)
Be high quality photographs of the actual product. Graphics, illustrations, mockups, or placeholders are not allowed
Exclude any accessories or props that might confuse the customer, text that is not part of the product, logos, watermarks, or inset images
Some categories have different requirements for the main image, take a peek at which specific category they are listed in
Lifestyle Images
Add between 3-5 additional lifestyle images
Show different angles of the product
Add lifestyle images that stage your product being used, modelled, or displayed, helping your customers connect and envision it in their life. You can include props and various backgrounds that highlight your product
Add a video (if possible)
@Winston_Amazonwe have an issue with one of our ASINs. We've tried to do just this and upload loads of lovely lifestyle photos of the product. They are in the back end - but amazon insist the original images we uploaded years ago are the ones that they prefer.
We've tried all sorts. Delete and Relist the SKU, change images sizes and formats. Nothing works.

"text that is not part of the product, logos, watermarks, or inset images"
I sell mainly badges, keyrings and greeting cards. Nearly all have text on them. Having images with text on them rejected is infuriating, especially as it's not easy to contest.
I'm not sure that's an improvement on Whistler's original study of his mother... :-o
Take a look at B005Z34SVE
So with all Amazons image rules why do they refuse to amend the photo's on this listing (as well as others from this seller) as it fails to meet the rules for both background colour and the sellers details in prominent view???
I've tried getting these listings altered several times but failed each and every time.
Has Amazon considered the fact that a "pure white" item sitting on a "pure white" background, that the item doesn't stand out all that well? It's a bit like taking a photo of a stick insect in a bush!
How do we go about getting listing images changed? I've submitted changes multiple times but listings never get changed.
We sell older video games and consoles which often have user submitted images which are terrible. A good used image is probably better than using an original stock image but the images for many older games and consoles look terrible.
There's no point submitting high resolution, high quality, no background images if Amazon never accepts them and keeps up ancient pictures which often include the original boxes for ancient hardware which doesn't always come with original boxes.
@Winston_AmazonPlease can you clarify what the size requirements are for the main image on listings as I've seen/ heard different ones from different people within Amazon:
you say 1600 pixels at least on the longest side, the image guide says 1000 pixels minimum for the zoom function to work and another Amazon person has told me that images should be 2000 x 2000 pixels!
Obviously that's quite a range of sizes and having to resize the main image in our THOUSANDS of products is no small job so we need to know what we should be working to.
We have quite a few listings where the product photos (not uploaded by us) are terrible and not adherent to Amazon's guidelines.
We've uploaded beautiful product photos with great lifestyle imagery but they just sit in the back end and Amazon doesn't seem to want to use these much better photos.
@Winston_AmazonHi. I'm not sure if the correct place to report this, but anyway - I know of a lot of listing pages where the images are poor or incorrect or have text on them that is not part of the products:
(1) I have tried to report most the affected listing pages to Amazon (on the "report link" on the listing pages or "report abuse" sections in seller central) many times in the past to try and get them to fix the images, but most the time nothing is done, and the images remain unchanged.
(2) If any images do get changed, they get changed to the WRONG images (that do not match the product page).
(3) In the rare instances the images get changed and fixed, after a few weeks of them being correct, somehow they get messed up again!
And it's nothing I'm doing that is messing up the images! The listing pages and images for them were created by someone else long ago. I'm just trying to sell my identical products using the existing pages, so I'm not responsible for the images being wrong, poor, or messed up. In fact, for many of the listings I have tried to upload to Amazon my own higher quality images to try and set them as the main images. But the listing pages just won't take them, despite most my scans should be roughly around 1600 pixels or more (the requirement for images).
Anyway, here is my long list of ASIN listing pages that have problems with the images:
The ones below have images that don't match the product listing pages (either all the images don't match or some of the images don't match):
B00004CJ56 - Gone With The Wind [VHS]
B00004RR8Y - (Disneys) Aladdin [VHS]
B00004CR87 - Rob Roy [VHS]
B00004CPA4 - The Pelican Brief [VHS]
B00004CTGX - Mission Impossible [VHS]
B00004CPKC - Look Who’s Talking Now [VHS]
B00004CLK6 - Look Who’s Talking Too [VHS]
B00005782O - (Disneys) Dinosaur [VHS]
B00004CVTE - Conspiracy Theory [VHS]
B00004R6RK - The American President [VHS]
The following listing page images have other problems:
0563477555 - Doctor Who: The Highlanders [Audio CD] = The images on this listing page only show the INSIDE-COVER of the product for this listing page + they show the product to be torn and dirty. This makes this product unclear and unwelcoming to Buyers.
0563477563 - Doctor Who: The Macra Terror [Audio CD] = The image is too small.
0563535067 - Doctor Who: The Underwater Menace [Audio CD] = The image is too small.
056349476X - Daleks (Doctor Who) [Audio CD] = The image is too small. This product is a metal case and inside there are x3 Doctor Who [Audio CD cases] - so some images of the inside contents of this product would be ideal for this listing page. Also the title of this product should be renamed to include the titles inside this product: [Audio CD's]: “Doctor Who, The Power Of The Daleks” + “Doctor Who, The Evil Of The Daleks” + “My Life As A Dalek”.
The following have "text" (dates) on the images that should not be there (they are all "Star Trek [VHS] titles of some sort - I will only note the ASIN's, not the full titles):

So, anyway, those are my listing page images I know of that have problems. I don't know if you @Winston_Amazon or someone else can do anything with them? At the very least the ones where the images don't match the product listing pages AT ALL need to be fixed (I've reported them so many times to Amazon now and still nothing has happened to them). Sigh.
Here is a tip for everyone, when you send Amazon a report about a listing page showing incorrect image(s), include the word:
HIJACKED.
Most my my previous times I reported to amazon incorrect images on listing pages, nothing happened. So a couple of days ago I sent them reports again (which I usually word something like: so-and-so listing page image is WRONG, please fix it, the images are meant to show so-and-so product), but I also added this sentence to my reports:
Possibly this listing page has been HIJACKED by an incorrect product.
And guess what? Within about a day many of the listing pages with incorrect images were fixed!
Of course, it could just be a coincidence that they finally got someone to fix the listing page images, but maybe that single word does make a difference? I got to keep an eye on the listing pages over the next few days/weeks though, just in case the fixed images suddenly get messed up again for no reason.
Sadly though, not all the listing pages I reported as "hijacked" have been fixed. One or two look as though they might still be in the process of being fixed (my inventory images might show the correct image, while the listing page doesn't).
One other really stupid thing that happens though: I've noticed sometimes that when the images on a listing page finally get fixed, they stay fixed for maybe a day or so, then for literally no reason they get changed back to the same wrong images again! What is going on when that happens?!?! The worst offender I know of is this product listing page:
B00004RR8Y - Disney's Aladdin (VHS)
Currently when this was typed, my inventory image shows the correct product image, but the listing page doesn't (the images show a NON Disney version of Aladdin VHS). I have reported this particular listing page DOZENS OF TIMES in the past - most the time my reports are ignored, but when they do finally get through and the images are looked at + changed the images always end up reverting back to wrong images after a day or two. I wonder if it's something to do with Amazon not liking Disney-VHS's on their website for whatever reason (many random Disney-VHS titles were literally deleted from the database some months ago for seemingly no good reason) - perhaps there is something similar going on with this Aladdin-VHS title, or perhaps there is just some sort of fault with the listing page? Other than that it just doesn't make sense why it keeps getting messed up! Or any listing page images for that matter - sigh.
