VAT Services on Amazon due to expire
I have been making use of Amazon’s VAT services scheme provided by Avalara and have been using it to help with VAT registration and filing with the aim of selling from UK into Europe.
The free trial expires at the end of this month and I have not yet managed to sell into Europe because of time taken to register for VAT etc.
When the free trial expires I will start paying fees to Avalara which are quite expensive and since I have not managed to get set up selling in Europe, will not be getting any money in return.
Alternatively if I decide to stop paying for VAT services, I will have to either deregister for VAT or file my VAT without Avalara.
Has anyone ran into similar problems as this? What solutions did you manage to find? Is there a way to file VAT in Europe outside of Avalara to avoid paying the expensive Avalara fees ? Would there be any way to get an extension of the free trial period? Would you recommend deregistering?
Also If I were to deregister for VAT, is there any way to do this without paying for VAT services?
Thanks for your help

Of course there are ways of filing VAT in the EU, without using Alvara.
If you understand the languages sufficiently, you could do it yourself.
Or you can use another company to do it for you.
You won’t be able to deregister for at least one of the countries, as I know Germany requires a minimum period of 2 years before being able to.
But I would suggest, that you contact Alvara/Amazon to find out when you will be charged etc, as it is they, who will be able to tell you.
I think a big part of the reason they give the year free, is to allow sufficient time to actually get registered.

just to quickly ask from this comment here as well as previous threads
Have you registered for VAT in EU to sell your goods there - shipping to EU customers directly from your UK business
or are you intending to send FBA stock to EU warehouses ?
