Buy Box % drop significantly

Hi All

Just a question to see if you can help me figure out why this has happened,

Traffic appears to have increased by a large % to one of our products but at the same time the buy box % has dropped. These items are brand items, only we sell them and only we hold the rights to sell them. We don’t sell these items elsewhere and bar the usual sites that list them for ridiculous prices and ebay re sellers they are not elsewhere for amazon to price match / check against.

ASIN

B08KBTZS27 & B08ZL6DNJY are the main ones that have dropped through the floor in terms of buy box % being reported. B08ZL6DNJY being the one that has literally hit the floor.

I thought at first maybe some advertising was pushing people to the B08ZL6DNJY item so iv removed any and all to see if it makes a difference which i wont know until tomorrow i think given the 2 day delay in reporting.

Any help would be appreciated, sales tanked for a day or so but have started to rebound to just below normal levels

So, a resolution of sorts amazon passed along the chain investigated and closed and it appears we are now back to 98%-100% and what ever random thing that was happening on the 3rd variant listing happens no more.

We are seeing something similar. Although periodically buy box/featured offer % seems to drop for a day and then rebound, we’ve seen it hover around 65% for a number of days on a number of offers that are normally 100%.

At the same time, it doesn’t appear to have had a meaningful (certainly not corresponding to the drop in %) impact on sales, which makes me think it is a reporting glitch. There is nothing highlighted within seller central in respect of offers that are ineligible, or eligible, but not featured. Every time we manually check we have the buy box / are the featured offer.

Interestingly, upon investigation, it seems that the page views on these offers have increased significantly vs. sessions that have remained much more consistent. The ratio of sessions to page views is anonymously high. No idea what would be causing this.

I don’t think it’s down to advertising. Our advertising spend has remained relatively constant and we don’t drive external traffic. We would also expect any increase in these to result in a jump in sessions too; not just page views.

Well, how odd that the item i moved from position 3 in the variants is now up in % and the item that replaced it has now tanked

amazon usual excuses came through seller central all of which i replied to showing each one was incorrect so soon see what happens if i move another item in to that spot.

something is definitely not right

So ASIN B08ZL6DNJY is back to more sales and 100% buy box just by changing one word in the description to force it down the variant list

B09GHKLNCC which took its place is now having the exact same issue in the exact same spot, so ill make a slight change to that and push another ASIN in to 3rd variant spot and see what it does

I’ve discussed the buy box rate in depth in some other threads previously, in short: there are a huge number of factors that determine whether or not you are eligible for the buy-box when any given customer views the page, it’s not a binary thing where you’re either eligible or not.

You can generate URLs that navigate to a page in such a way that no-one has the buy-box, it’s also possible that customers aren’t seeing you in the buy-box due to their settings.
One possibility is that your product is showing up on organic google search results and/or on one of Amazon’s advertising campaigns (for example Amazon’s ads on google or Facebook), while this is rare it does happen from time to time as it’s a fully automated system that handles these, the fact your product is highly ranked also helps a lot. In these cases it’s possible that the ads are targeting business buyers and/or using a URL that doesn’t show you in the buy-box.
It’s also possible that you’re getting a lot of international customers viewing the item (assuming that you don’t do international delivery and/or you’re not eligible for the buy-box due to postage price/delivery times/etc.)

Also remember that advertising stats include customers which click your ad and then navigate to another seller’s product.

It is a strange situation, the url used in any ads are a direct link to the item without modifiers when i test this on different devices and on systems with no link between them in terms of who is using the they show with the buy box each and every time.

I initially though none uk based buyers clicking on these but i only advertise to the uk currently, still waiting on German tax code for 20 weeks at this point, yah brexit…

ill keep an eye on the products and swap around the colour variations somewhat to see if the same pattern occurs as the placement shouldn’t matter that much.

@Animal_Outfitters_UK
It sounds like these mysterious views without sessions might just be going to your parent listing, so whichever variation is the default.

no i can see the item it goes to in the business report they all track with which ever is in sport three for some reason, i can see again iv moved another one in to that spot and its done the exact same thing really odd.

Ok so further update, i can safely say my theory has been proven, what ever collar i put in to the the third variant spot drops the buy box percentage down to between 7-22% if i move it around it recovered within 2 days to 100%

there is something that pushes the 3rd variant on amazon or some sort of bug that is causing this amazon have passed it up the chain now.
