Books - specific editions
Hi all,
I’ve been putting a few more of my books up for sale and have found a few where the specific edition is not listed, even with the same ISBN; for instance 0946439303.
Is it okay to put stuff in the Condition notes like “Please note this paperback was printed in 1986, the cover is different to that shown in the main item description.”
I could of course also add a photo but am finding it really difficult to take/edit photos which are acceptable.
Thanks!

If the ISBN is the same then you do need list it on the correct ISBN, and yes, you simply state in the condition notes ‘Different cover as 1986 reprint, same ISBN…’ or whatever.
Keep your description notes short and concise, your example above is a bit too ‘wordy’, not wrong, but if too long-winded people will not read them.
It is possible to add your own photo.

Hi Millie
This is something I’ve done in the past because some ISBNs have LOTS of different covers/dates associated with them.
But I have found that some customers don’t read the condition notes or even, necessarily, look at the picture.
You either take your chances or don’t list the item

Thanks both; and @JillyB1, I’ll try to be less verbose!

I would definitely not list a different edition without putting in a photo of my own book (personally I put in a photo of my own book whether or not its the same edition.) That way potential buyers can actually see what your book looks like). The photo already on the Amazon listing may , for instance, show a missing or badly torn dustwrapper – your copy may be perfect ( or vice versa).
There are many reasons why buyers want particular editions. One of them is the cover or the dustwrapper . I , for example , would always want a 1950s Pan paperback copy of an Inspector West with attractive cover art. A later edition from the 1980s would have very different and far less attractive covers. The text of the book would of course be identical.
