Would you ever send stuff second class?
My items fall into two categories, one is thicker (and more expensive) than the other and I post first class large letter (which costs me just 1p more than the 80p + VAT S&L fee when it is sold FBA)
Because the other is thinner I only pay 60p + VAT S&L charge when it’s FBA but I’ve been still sending it first class if I fulfill the order myself which costs me 29p more than the FBA fee.
Is it worth me setting up a second class shipping template for these thinner (and cheaper) items or am I just storing up trouble for myself in late deliveries for the sake of a 22p saving? (The difference between first and second class large letter.)
My handling is set to 1-2 days and transit 2-3 days.

I do a 3-5 days transit time and a day for dispatch and send 2nd class large letter for everything under £15 and never get any late delivery complaints on ebay or Amazon. But if I had your 2-3 days transit time I would be more inclined to do 1st class.

The vast majority of our stuff goes 2nd class and we have had no problems.

I suppose I could just put the price up for those on FBM and still send 1st class.

We send the majority of our items second class with handling and transit set the same as you
Very rarely do we get a complaint about an item being late, most items arrive way before the estimated delivery date.
Second class post is very reliable and quick nowadays, we find it is not uncommon for a second class large letter to arrive the next day.

Yes, 100’s of items daily and most arrive the next working day.

So is mine, and I use 2nd (RM48) and I post out every other day

Ive been online selling for over 18 years & never sent anything 1st class unless requested or paid extra for.

Think you need to answer that question yourself regarding whether it’s worth sending second class or not. All depends on your margins and volumes. If you make massive margins then what’s 22p saving. However if you’re in a cut throat market trying to compete making pennies then defo worth it…you get my drift.

i find that if i send things 2nd class by and large it gets there the next day, or should i say just as quick as first class

Always. But I do use stamps. I don’t like the idea of ‘2nd Class’ emblazoned all over my expensive packages. (Incidentally, it almost always arrives next day.)
