Damage to mailbox

Can anyone help? I have a customer, in France, that has received an item, which is in perfect condition. However when the postman delivered the item (boxed) he has damaged the buyers mailbox. The buyer has contacted me and said that since it was my item the postman was delivering the damage caused is my fault!

I have pointed out that the damage was caused by the postman, not my item. Am I correct? Or am I missing something.

I have contacted SS and they say to “work things out with your buyer”.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do not engage in conversation over this, it will only lead to more angst.
Set up a polite reply referring the customer to the FR postal service if they wish to claim compensation for a damaged letterbox and just repeatedly send that if they reply again.

Thanks guys for your replys. At least you’ve confirmed that I’m not going mad and missing something.

I have pointed out that he should contact the postal Service, so I’m going to leave it at that.

You never know SS may even step in and save the day!

Any ideas guys?
This customer in France won’t go away, still insists the damage to his mailbox is caused by my item I sent him.
I’ve contacted Amazon and they have said it’s not my fault. The item received was fine so just tell the buyer to contact La Poste and get them to sort out the problem.
I’ve done all that but the buyer is still emailing me for the cost of the mailbox.
Can I block the buyer? Anyone know? Report him? Any other ideas?

You can just mark it as no response needed and each time indicate that “The buyer is trying to cheat or defraud me”.

Or you can reply to every message with “I refer you to my reply of DATE & TIME.”
Hopefully he’ll get the point after just a few of these repeated responses.
And . . . each time indicate that “The buyer is trying to cheat or defraud me”.

That’s a good idea as well. Maybe add that there will be no further response.
I’d probably not mention “liability” in anyway - even if it’s

Am I the only who by now has grown extremely CURIOUS of what that object you sent might be?

An electric saw with a battery, that started sawing away the moment it passed through the letter box?

Also out of curiosity, were you yourself not curious to examine the damage done and ask for a photo?

I just couldn’t resist asking for one, even if I wasn’t going to take the claim seriously! Just would have to see that.

Sell him a new letterbox.

Ok, so the item was only a golf accessory packaged in a box. Nothing explosive or dangerous.
I have seen a photo and the box was about an inch too large to fit in the mailbox. So the postman probably did force the door shut. In doing so, the catch broke. From what I could gather from the photo, the door was fine and to be honest with a little ingenuity, the catch could be repaired.

Unfortunately, I don’t sell mailboxes, good idea though!

I’ll take some good advice, reply to the next message and say “I believe the matter now to be closed” and mark all further responses as ‘no response needed’.

Don’t you just love customers!!

Thanks guys
