Return postage Cost
Hello i’m looking for a bit of advice we have had a order returned to us in two shipments with the auto return as Missed estimated delivery date the item was delivered via tracking on the Deliver by date. the order was in the beginning of September delivered a few days later now only have they returned it. is there anyway we can charge them the shipping return cost? we sent it out in a small box and they have returned it in two parcels. i spoke to SS who told me “I would like to inform you that to deduct the cost of shipping from buyer you can contact them over buyer seller messages and if they agree you can deduct the cost,” I have contacted the buyer but they are insisting i pay for the return do i have any options or do i have to refund the postage?

See below the table for responsibility on returns. If there’s a box to tick that says ‘charge amount’ for postage, then you can. Customers are well known to select a reason from the truth for a free return.
I mean you could, in theory, do a partial return of the postage but you do have to upload an image.
- The return is free, if the return reason is seller-responsible. Label cost cannot be deducted.
- The label cost can be deducted, if the return reason is buyer-responsible.

Oh look - more rubbish from Seller Support.
If they have claimed it missed delivery date but it did not - I would deduct the return postage value from the refund. You have to do this by applying a refund reduction when you apply the refund. This has to be a percentage of the product value, so you just have to do it to the nearest value possible.

But as soon as you select a % to refund, it asks for photos. What could you upload in the photos section? If the customer has agreed to the reduction to cover the cost then you could screenshot the conversation and upload that. But what if they haven’t?
