Why cant Amazon understand logistics and cost difference

Hi all

First time on these forums.

We have been selling on Amazon for a few years now not masses, we have roughly 50 listings.
We use several different couriers for delivering parcels, However I have yet to find a courier that will deliver a parcel for the same price as UK mainland to lets say the Scottish Highlands or the Isles of Scilly.

I am sure you all have the same Amazon notice as below:

“We require sellers to offer Standard Shipping to all addresses in the UK for the same shipping fee. This includes addresses in England, Scotland (including the Highlands, Orkney, Shetland and all other islands), Wales, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Isles of Scilly, and the Channel Islands. Failure to comply with this policy may result in action being taken against your selling account”.

Based in Bristol I can not get my head around the fact that Amazon will not take into account that to send to Shetlands or Channel Islands is in some cases 4 times more expensive then delivering to UK mainland.

I appreciate that Amazon want to capture all potential customers wherever they may live but lets have it right and fair to us traders

If it can’t be sent via Royal Mail first class, it gets cancelled because ‘shipping address undeliverable’. We also use Parcel2go for finding an affordable courier to send to difficult post codes. Of course, anything PH is twenty and Jersey requires those customs forms, so we won’t send there. Given that Jersey isn’t even considered a part of the UK or Europe, the fact that Amazon still counts them as UK is beyond frustrating.

It seems Amazon do understand. This from another thread:

“The only exception to the above policy is for products that are eligible for arranged delivery as part of their enrolment in the Heavy & Large Programme. As part of this Heavy & Large Programme, sellers can adjust delivery charges in regions through their Shipping Settings, but they are still required to comply with all other requirements of the policy. To get more information, view the help page (https://sellercentral.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/G2021880403) or contact large-delivery@amazon.co.uk

So, you need to enrol in the Heavy & Large Programme.

You can set a different shipping price via Shipping Template for these areas:(Aberdeen, Dundee, Falkirk, Outer Hebrides, Inverness, Kirkwall, Kirkaldy, Paisley, Perth, Galashiels, Shetland Islands), Northern Ireland, Channel Islands, Isle of Man

Also discussed on this thread , looks like a large policy change by Amazon;

use collect plus - they deliver everywhere for the same price except channel islands

This is why Royal Mail sometimes kick up a fuss because they have to offer a “universal service” to every postcode in the country, whether on the mainland or a remote island, whereas the couriers cherry pick the postcodes which are cheapest to ship to and then ramp the price up for areas outside the norm.

If it’s possible to let Amazon change their policies?

Why cant Amazon understand logistics and cost difference

I had a chuckle when I read the title to this topic.

It’s like saying “Why can’t Rolls Royce understand engines and cost difference”

I think Amazon know a thing or two about logistics and costs.
