Incredible, there’s a big difference between returning a ring for example and a set of 3 suitcases. They can not be serious!

Well it stops the agonising about whether Amazon is worth the effort. September the 5th will be leaving day. Free returns adds another layer of cost to a category where amazon creams off a greater % than we do.

I wonder what impact it’s had on other sellers that have had this hoisted on them and of course it becomes perfect for the ‘rent a sparkle’ shoppers on amazon who want something special for the weekend and return it on Tuesday.

This just into my inbox.

Hello from Amazon Services Europe,

From September 5, 2018, Amazon.co.uk is changing its returns policy to offer free return delivery to customers on Jewellery, Watches and Luggage & Travel Accessories purchases sold on Amazon. This supplements the free return delivery already offered for Clothing, Shoes and Handbags.

Orders fulfilled by Amazon will offer free customer returns as per above. To ensure a consistent experience for customers and according to your seller agreement, your return policy must match or exceed Amazon’s return policy. This means that for Jewellery, Watches and Luggage & Travel Accessories, you will need to offer customers free return delivery for all orders fulfilled by you and placed from September 5, 2018.

To learn more about customer returns, please visit https://sellercentral-europe.amazon.com/gp/help/G200708210.

Thank you,

Amazon Services Europe

First Thought - 25% is not enough for the bloodsuckers
Second Thought - Only result of this action will be price increases.

I wonder how will this work for international sellers. Currently, when I sell something on Amazon Italy, I am required to provide the buyer a return address in his own country regardless of the return reason. Then the buyer returns the item to the return address on his own expense.

I am not able to arrange free return shipping for a buyer in Italy. I hope that they will not require foreign sellers to either refund without a return or provide a pre-paid return label. This would be impossible to arrange.

How do free returns work? If a customer opens a return of that said item is it obvious that it’s a free return?

Recently I have been adding newly listed stocks of keyrings under ‘luggage’.

When an Amazon rep set the account up for me, he created keyrings listings under ‘Stationery & Office Supplies’

Therefore any potential returns would need to be clear so I would know if it’s ‘free’ return or at the customers expense when ordered in error etc.

This is wrong the offering of free returns should be the choice of the seller and not made compulsory. Will more than likely have to increase prices to cover this which will more than likely result in less sales

This really is the final nail in the coffin for me - and we pay 30% category fee for the privilege. We will all abide by this latest stupid ruling whilst the Chinese sellers selling their fake 925 sterling silver crap will move it all into other categories to avoid this. More catalogue mash-up all in the name of being customer-centric. I was planning to shut down on Amazon next year - they’ve just brought that forward by about 9 months.

I am not sure Amazon have thought this through, as earrings can be refused as a return under UK law for hygiene reasons. Most of my jewellery is sets. So easy, no returns now accepted. No new jewellery will be listed.
Not sure if this applies to the handmade jewellery section, if so Etsy here I come!

They are getting worse, not only do I hardly have any sales and if I do, Amazon love to refund them on anything.
Then I have had the shoes and bags returns category which buyers seem to return more since they introduced that. It’s beyond a joke now.
Why are they just picking on these categories. It’s Amazon who are offering the free returns at our expense, if they are offering, they should pay especially when the colour doesn’t match etc.

No doubt my images will be getting supressed too as we aren’t allowed to use dummys head, another pathetic reason. I feel using a dummys bust head shows Jewellery off well

I am now shutting my shop, had enough.
Will have to give them 3 months notice too
