Listing used books
Hi everyone,
I posted a while back regarding the new layout for adding a product.
Can I ask anyone who sells used books do you still fill out the condition description when adding products/listing? I've noticed now on the new layout there is no option to do this and you now have to click on edit listing to be able to do this. When you click edit listing it wont let you fill out condition description without having to fill out all the safety and compliance details.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Apologies if Its me being silly.

Try Offer Condition Type and use the pull down and select an option
Yes, I know, it should say Offer Condition only but it's there

When you get to the listing page, you need to click on the 'All attributes' button on the left, and then you can fill in the box called 'Offer Condition Note' with the actual description of your book. It is under the 'Offer Condition Type' which has the usual conditions to choose from the dropdown. Well that's what I do !!

Yes, it is the total price, including the postage, so depending on if you use the default shipping of £2.80, or set your own, you need to remember that, so it jumps up to £1 if your book is priced at £2,20 or more !

Thank you for that Brian, I don't sell anything that comes in below £5 so I guess the closing fee is always going to be £1

Yes, although I could set my own postage I use the default postage which is not always £2.80 probably due to the number of incorrect categories books and knitting patterns are in.

Not sure you would find many professional used booksellers needing to use something like that.

I agree with you, but do know some who use barcode scanners. Personally I just use my eyes, knowledge, gut feeling (!!), having been doing it for over 18 years !

I’m hoping I get to that stage eventually. Still in my first year of doing it.
I get what you mean though you do to start to build a feel/gut feeling of what sells and what doesn’t

Almost anything WILL sell, but the 'skill' of bookselling is acquiring stock that will sell at a profit worth having.
Buying for £1 and netting £1 profit isn't worth the effort; buying for £100 and netting £100 profit is.

The problem with books on Amazon is that many prices have been decimated by the 'megasellers' and those who use pricing software to undercut, and the many dropshippers, who don't hold any stock, but have listed nearly every book in the catalogue - you will get to recognise their names !

I think you’re right there to be fair, I’ve noticed recently that a lot of prices of books seemed to have dropped.
Plus the VAT on seller fees now has made the margins a lot tighter
