Customs Duty on returned item
Hi, I’m looking for some advice - it’s not an Amazon issue but I’m hoping to tap into the experience of international sellers.
I need to return a ring to a company in the Netherlands for refund/replacement. It is effectively a change of mind return so I am responsible for postage.
Firstly I need a courier who will carry and cover an item worth £700
Secondly, I’m unclear of the situation re customs duty - which of course has changed recently (the ring arrived just before the end of the year so there was no customs duty payable then). Is customs duty payable on returned items?

You do not have to pay duty to export items. There may be duty and/or taxes to pay for the other end to receive them.
Make sure that you follow the returns directions properly, especially the completion of the customs declaration you will need to include.
For our customers when returning goods from overseas we require them to write this on the label:
BRITISH RETURN GOODS RELIEF 6123F01 - RETURN OF ITEM EXPORTED xx/xx/xx AS A RETAIL SALE WITH NO MODIFICATIONS
Possibly your Dutch seller will have a similar requirement.
