Brand name issue on listing page
Could anyone assist on this?.
Few months back while creating amazon listing system allowed me to use the brand name without issues and GTIN exemption had also been received on the ‘product category’ and ‘brand name’ combination. Recently Error -5665 came up in the listing page and as mentioned in the error message I had asked my supplier to print the brand name on the product packaging to my new stock as ran out of stock and submitted those images to SS but SS turn down and replied saying “we do not see sufficient proof that the branding on the product and/or packaging distinguishes the product from other, similar products that are not branded”.
My brand is not trade mark registered and I have no intension to go for AMZ brand registry at the moment. To solve this error message , what I was thinking is, change the brand name to ‘Generic’ from the brand name that I had put in the listing. Does the AMZ allows to change the brand name to ’ generic’ as this doesn’t qualify for brand criteria ,this would helps me avoiding deleting the listing and recreating the listing with same FNSKU?. I cannot take a risk loosing my ASIN as it has some sales history and inbound stock to FBA

It’s difficult to know without seeing the item but if Amazon are recognising this item as just a generic item anyway they will almost certainly link the items up together. Generic can be listed as the brand. Brands are not considered accepted brands in some cases unless you can qualify the GS1 code etc. Amazon may change the asin but keep the ratings intact. In this case I think you might have to take a leap of faith if you have stock on the way to them and try to update the listing in the only way possible.
As you know, brand registry is associated to a trademark.
Hope you get it sorted out without losing ratings… I’ve had listings hijacked having spent a fortune on ads with enormous ratings and still lost them because support either don’t read everything or don’t care enough to see the whole issue. So be prepared for the worse and hope for the best.
