FBM Book seller packaging

Hi everyone,

I just wondering if anyone was able to give me any advice with regards to packaging books as an FBM Seller. I've noticed that when shipping book orders using book mailers a lot of the heavier books seem to burst/split the book mailer and I'm concerned about orders arriving damaged to customers.

Just wanting to know does any ship heavier books in normal mailing bags/ bubble wrap or is there a set packaging standard that you need to adhere to in line with Amazon policies?

Thanks

As a book seller, I recycle all my packaging, and for heavier books I always try to put in cardboard box - which I create from any packaging I have on hand. Must say I have never had anyone say their order has arrived damaged in 18 years on here !!! I put in bubble wrap first and then inside cardboard, never just a plastic mailing bag.

Personally I think using recycled packaging looks unprofessional.

For heavy/expensiveish/chunky, 1.5kg+/£30+, I bubblewrap and use cardboard book mailers from Kite or Ebay boxes that I get almost for free with my Ebay account.

No set standard as far as I know - WoB & the like send out heavy hardbacks in thin plastic bags so many books arrive damaged, according to their negative feedback. We use Kite book mailers for hardbacks/bigger paperbacks, with bubblewrap for the heavier or more vulnerable books; card envelopes for normal paperbacks or very thin hardbacks. That seems to provide protection against the worst that RM can do.

For heavier books I first wrap in plastic or cellophane bags, then bubble wrap, then a cardboard box (mostly recycled) then either a polybag or a large bubble bag.

The megasellers often use no more than a flimsy polybag so the heavier books they post invaraiably arrive with some damage. I guess it's the only way they can post 1kg+ books for under £3 delivered without actually losing money but we don't all have to stoop to those levels.
