Trademark registration

HI All. I’m dipping my toe into the water of brand registry. I’m looking to register our own brand/trademark before doing brand registry on amazon. I’ve looked at a few websites that can register our trademark, but they vary in price quite a bit. I’m aware that you usually get what you pay for, but also that some will pray on the un knowledgeable and charge a fortune for something that is usually a lot cheaper.

Am I right in registering the trademark, or is it something else I need to register? Does anyone know what a reasonable price would be? Has anyone had a good experience with a company that they could recommend them to me.

Thanks

Here you can review resources about the Brand Registry service:

I agree with the other responses - you don’t need to pay a company you can do it all yourself.
We paid for a logo to be made and then submitted the application ourselves.
The cost will depend on how many categories you register your trade mark in but this is all explained (in easy to read terms) on the website.
Good luck!

And you don’t need a logo at all if you apply for a word trademark, as opposed to a composite mark. Though they’re not tangeable assets, if someone ever wanted to buy the mark from you, there’d be more value in the former, as a composite mark is only protected as it appears. It isn’t a difficult process at all and the IPO are very helpful too, should you need to ask them any questions either ahead of or during the application process.

We did it ourselves in the UK and used Trama to do so in Europe. DIY works very well in the UK and will keep your cost right down, and UK intellectual property office (IPO) were quick.

I did it myself its a fairly easy process. It take a while to process though, roughly about 3 months in total. The Registry do keep you updated snd if you call then for any reason they are very helpful. Click one of the links in the forum to do it.

Hi There,

I wasted money on using a solicitor for my Trademark years ago. A complete waste of money. It’s honestly so easy. Go on the Government website, check trademarks. It gives you the option to search by names. Check the name you’d like to register. The important thing is to check if someone else has the name and what class they are under. Different Classes refer to food, clothes, a whole host of things. Do your research which class number you should be in. When you find your class or classes list as many things you sell or might sell as possible and also be generic. Look at similar trademarked business with different names that do the same thing (crib their ideas). You can also contact the trademark office, it’s free and they are very helpful.

Hope that helps a little
