(Business) Identity verification
Hello all,
I have created a new Amazon account and it asks me to verify my (business) identity information:
My company is a sole proprietor. I have the option to upload one of the following documents for the verification:

I asked the tax authorities for such a document and they sent me a document with the title ‘‘certificate concerning the capacity of the taxpayer’’ and it shows my company name and address and says that it is subject to Value Added Tax under my tax number. It does not mention my name.
Is this the right document or should it mention my name because my company is a sole proprietor? And should I then choose the option ‘‘Value Added Tax registration certificate’’?
Thank you.

That isn’t right. If you’re a sole proprietor you’re operating in a sole capacity. If you’re a company then you’d be operating as a separate legal entity. I think you mean “my business is a sole proprietorship”.
If you’re in the UK and operating as a sole proprietor you should have something with your UTR number on it (e.g. HMRC self assessment reminder, HMRC tax calculation etc). As for your VAT details it would usually be something like “Fred Smith T/A NotFF”. Have you tried looking it up on VIES that it’s properly recorded?

If your a sole trader like me then you will have a UTR number from HMRC.
If your a LTD company (you can still do that on your own) You will have a number from companies house.
If you are registered for VAT you don’t have to be a company for that as it based on your turnover. USE the VAT certificate.

Thank you for your reply. I think my business is indeed a sole proprietorship. I am the only one in the business. My company is located in The Netherlands. The letter does include my VAT number (=UTR number I guess) and it shows correctly in the VIES. So if I understand it correctly the letter should have my personal name on it and maybe also the business name?

Thank you for your answer too. In the Netherlands the UTR number is called a VAT number. I do have it. Do you think the current letter/certificate I have is sufficient or should it also have my own name on it? It does have the VAT number on it.
