Royal Mail PPI Red X
Hi, I dropped my post of as usual at the sorting office this morning, the man at the office scanned my summary and shouted “Red X” and then attached a label to my bag. After googling it I’m concerned that we’ve been doing something wrong. I’ve checked everything that was in that bag and the weights / parcels all look right to me. The man at the sorting said they get 2 to 3 a day and are random but it’s got me a bit worried now. I’ve never been surcharged or contacted about my post. Has anyone else had this?

If they do find any anomalies they will hold your post and email to say what was on the manifest v what they found ie 118 large letters and 1 parcel on the manifest but they found 117 large letters and 2 parcels
You can argue it and get them to double check or you can just accept it so that they release your post.
financially, they will amend your costs for that day and add on £30 (£25 admin fee plus VAT)

yep, i have been red xed more times than i can remember over the years, it just means that the sortation/mailing centre will do a check to ensure everything in the bags has been listed properly and that your not trying to sneak any freebies through. if all is good the your parcels will still go trough the same night as normal, if you have missed anything of your listing then it will get added and a admin charge of £25 (i think) will be added to your bill. hope this helps.

Red X is a Royal mail revenue protection scheme. Basically your post has been randomly chosen to be checked you are adhering to the correct tariffs etc…

I was Red X’d for putting First Class Small Parcels in with First Class LL, the woman who took the sacks made it sound way worse than it actually was.
Considering id been sorting them that way for the past 2 years I was most likely Red X’d every bloody day.

Thanks everyone for this information a few weeks back… However this has happened to me 3 times again since… Nobody at the sorting office is able to tell me what is going on and when i call customer services, they just raise a query with the sorting office.
Nobody from revenue protection has called / e-mailed to tell me there is anything wrong with my mail so im at a loss whats going on.
Is there anyone I can actually contact to find out whats going on?
Thanks

Still not been contacted by anyone at Revenue protection and post is arriving on time. It seems to be every Tuesday and Thursday

We’ve had a RM account for a long time (couple of years) and only recently had a “Red X” when dropping bags off at sorting office.
Usually drop off at Post Office, but went to Sorting Office for a change as needed more bags.
Woman behind counter was helpful and said it was a random check (just like the random checks at supermarket) and nothing to worry about. She was puzzled as it was first one we’d have and we’d being going there so long, and she said that it may be because if dropping off at post office, they use computer rather than hand scanner in order to log it.

We get red Xed roughly every 6 months. Usually it’s one or two days in a row, then nothing for a few days, then usually one or two more in the days after that.
The only time there was ever a problem was when I manifested twice in one day, and I passed both manifests to the driver at collection, but he didn’t move both on along with our sacks, so they called me and asked me why I had twice as many items in the sacks as I’d manifested. I explained, gave them the manifest numbers and that was it, nothing came of that.
Our sorting office manager said that in the past we’ve been red Xed because I’d put some LLs in the post box when I found that I’d failed to put them in the sacks, even though they’d been manifested. He also said that otherwise they just do it on a sort of semi-regular basis just to check in, because there were some companies that used to make a habit of not paying for their shipping.

It was PPi not click and drop so i enter the number on OBA and they check the number is correct at the mail centre

It wouldn’t surprise me if they got it wrong to be honest
Twice since 2014 we have had a call/email saying we sent our bags sealed with the cable tie through the loops instead of around the neck of the bag
It really frustrates me because I am the only one who seals the bags and have sent thousands over the years so obviously someone in RM has opened it and re sealed it incorrectly
My guess is they have new temps doing some of the work and they aren’t up to speed with it all
